Hi all

So as the title says is this a standard hand and I was just unlucky or do you think I should have folded.

Hand notes : Only had about 40 hands on villain and he had 19vpip 19pfr with no notes taken on them.

When he checked raised the turn I did think sets but I also thought he could be check raising a flush or maybe a straight. I'm I thinking along the right lines here?

If the turn hadn't of been a K I would have folded then to a bet.

I'm checking back the flop myself. KQ I think I'd bet but we want some kings in our check range so we can call down bluffs.

As played, I think it's fine.

Honestly, you should probably be folding on every street. Random 2nl villains aren't usually check/raising JdTd and then punting off a stack (especially BB vs UTG). Flop might be close, but the Kc is a terrible card for villain to continue bluffing on. Villain never has KT, but could certainly have AK/KQ. Combine that and 44/22 and you basically have villain's entire range.

edit: flop check with KJs/KTs seems like a good idea

I'm just inclined to b/f flop at micros, but checking back our KTs and KJs (some of them? all of them?) seems reasonable too.

    Thanks for that.

Just so I understand. Should I be check calling the flop?

Is this because I can't value bet here. because we assume villain would not continue with a worse hand?

You definitely can value bet here, villain will continue with any king, any flush draw, and sometime with random pocket pairs.

The problem is that if he raises you're in a tough spot, and if he calls you're probably not getting 3 streets of value from a 19/19 with top pair 3rd kicker.
By check/calling, you're defending your hands against bluffs a bit (if villain pays any attention), so you're not always check/folding when you check.

Villain might be more willing to put money in the pot after a check, than after a bet, with a hand you beat (if he has like KQ he'll put money either way, but those are not the hands you want him to put the money in with). If he has say 8's, he might bet if you check, but fold if you bet.
