Villain seems like a regular, I don't have much hands on him.
I check behind on the turn to avoid turning my hand into a bluff and extract maybe a half pot sized bet on the river. I can't beat his value beting range, but after I check behind should I be more inclined to call the river?
That that ace on the turn hits his range better than mine, right?

The turn could hit your range harder - I'd cbet almost all my range on a board this dry, so I'd get to the turn with all Ax. And villain should have a capped range as soon as he flatted your open, so can't have AA, AK etc.

But this line comes up so often and it's just super villain dependent. Regs and passive fish can easily show up with AQs here, and will just hardly ever bluff. Aggro types do, and there are some missed draws there to turn into bluffs. But have a hard think about what villain's stat are and what the population does. It's interesting to make PT filters for certain lines and see what people show up with at showdown.

Ah OP! You can't fold here for 1/2 pot, that's really exploitable. I'd fire turn smallish and x back river as he can have Ax suited somewhat often. But when you x turn he honestly has a lot of random bluffs that he probes river with, he'd probably bet a ten for thin value even, you just have to call.

The ace on the turn should hit our range better. We have more Ax's in our PF raising range (villain probably always 3-bets PF with AA, AK, usually 3-bets with AQ, AJ, A5s-A2s, e.g.), and villain shouldn't have many Ax's OTT after calling a 2/3 PSB OTF. His Ax range OTT should really only be something like a handful of Axcc combos, AT (but sometimes this 3-bets PF), A6s, A3s.

I imagine we should be checking a lot of our stronger Ax's OTF but even having a couple in our betting range means the ace is a scary turn card for most of villain's range vs. ours.

I generally call river once every draw misses.

River is call because of missed draws, V may also bet with a T for some reason. I'd check the turn though since I do not bet this flop with my strong A's as well as I expect V to flat this flop with A high a lot . However I think betting turn may be good in the circumstances James explained.
