PS NL10 6 max - Effective stacks 120 BBs

Villain is CO. 16/13/6 after 110 hands. Seems good/decent. 3b me like 3 hands back, I folded. Cover.

Hero is UTG, been playing sorta laggy. 35/24/5.

Preflop

Hero opens to 3 BB UTG w/ 86, CO makes it 9 BBs, Hero calls.

Flop (19 BB) - 244

Hero checks, CO checks

Turn (19 BB) - A

Hero checks, CO bets 9 BB, hero raises to 39 BBs

If called I likely jam any heart river, or give up.

Thoughts?

Fold pre. I think the open in the first place is probably too wide but not calling the 3b.

Yeah, I open fold this pre probably 50-60% of the time and fold to the 3b probably 90% of the time.

Open is losing money, calling the 3bet is losing even more. You are check-raising turn with no equity no blockers on the nut-card for villain.

A lot of fundamental mistakes.

I disagree that I shold open this pre 0 % of the time. BB was a huge fish who I'd like to play alot of pots in position against, SB was sorta the same, rest of table was nitty. 3bettor I think had a very narrow range 3betting my UTG raise after he 3b me just a couple of hands back + nitty stats. But yeah, calling 3b is marginal at best, I guess.

In tjrn, I figured villains hand is pretty much face up and I figured he knows that I know that, and I think there is a good chance he'll fold anything less than AK, and he might even fold that. . I realize I am repping kinda slim though.

Dude, you were utg. You don't open utg to play ip against the bb.

Opening suited connectors from UTG or MP is a distinctly losing play. The rake is too high to VPIP anything but clear value hands from the early positions. AJo+, KTs+, 66+ is a good range. 86s is only useful for late position steals. Never call 3-bets with it. Even if you can outplay the 3-bettor, a rake of potentially several big blinds is too much to overcome.

There is no way opening 86s for this big sizing is profitable or even 0EV. I've seen preflop solvers and AI's and none of them come even close to opening this UTG, not even in CO. One bad player on the table doesn't magically make a trash hand profitable.

1) You open for a big (3x) sizing (range should be tighter)
2) You open a hand that is a -EV open in any solver or AI, even with a smaller sizing
3) You defend vs a 3bet, which should be folded vs any opponent. And you decided to defend vs a nit of all players.
4) You x/r vs a nit on one of the best cards for his range when you are drawing dead vs any pair+

Ok, the general consesus seems like pre is horrible. I think NEVER opening 86s UTG 6-handed is pretty meh metawise though, but w/e.

On turn, the situations where I am in villans place and have say AQ, I hate betting those turns vs competent opponents cause my hand is so easy to read and so easily exploitable and if raised I'm just gonna barf.. I usually do bet though, in his shoes.

He tanked and folded, fwiw.
