Cruising at NL5, sucking at NL10 Cruising at NL5, sucking at NL10

After nearly 50k hands at NL5 my winrate is still above 10BB/100, which I am very happy about. But when I try NL10 or even NL25, the story changes completely. People are much more aware of what's going on, they do not passively fold to small bets, are capable of bluffing/repping made hands, are much better at reading opponents ... I'm still struggling for a clean ride at NL10, but am not sure how to adjust properly and what to work on to achieve better results. The fact that they are 3-betting a lot and firing barrels liberally does not help either, if you float them, they keep firing at you, if you raise, you're pretty much commited and can get raped pretty quickly. Any ideas how to adjust properly?

My basic stats:

VPIP/PFR/3BET/AFq 18.49/17.23/11.87/63.01

I won't comment on your stats as I'm not an expert, but I too recently made the transition from 5NL to 10NL (Zoom on Pokerstars). I had similar teething issues and what felt like a long breakeven/losing period but have since found my feet, and felt the same way you do now during that time.

All I can say is that if you're winning at 10BB/100 at 5NL then keep doing what you're doing, it's most likely just variance. The level of play by the average player is no better at 10NL than at 5NL, though you do run in to a few more aggro players. There's still plenty of fish stacking off with trash.

There's no real difference from $5 to $10 buy-in. You're leveling yourself, and responding poorly to variance. That's all that's happening. Play the same disciplined, taggy strategy you did at 5NL. Don't constantly look at your graph. Focus on playing solid, and smart poker. You will be able to overcome the variance long term if you don't tilt.

Its called variance if you really beat 5nl you will beat 10nl.

I'm inclined to agree with the above posters. I'd think a 3bb/100 player at 5nl might struggle, but a 10+bb/100 winner should be fine.

I recall reading that the first big jump in the skill of the average reg comes at 25nl.

If I were you, I’d continue playing 5nl until your bank roll at 10nl is like 80 buy ins or whatever makes you feel like the money doesn’t matter. I feel like whenever I’ve moved up, the buy in change made me so tilted. Like, losing a stack to a flip at the next level stresses you out way more you know?
