Raised turn to get more from villain's pair or 2 pairs which, a rec, would hardly ever fold?

when you have this much equity , your opponent's range is weak, you can barrel turns and can c/ rivers with sdv, you need to start betting. not only do you build a bigger pot for when you hit, but you pick money on flop, on plenty of turn give-ups and you can safely c/ rivers you don't like

Checking back flop has some merits but I would expect betting to be more profitable. Would raise bigger ott as played.

In a BvB pot where villain limp-called pre, AQdd is basically a value-bet on this flop. It can also comfortably call a x-raise, so betting is good. When the ranges are weak/wide, like in this spot, and you want to be able to bet all your top pairs+ (and some bottom pairs), pretty much all your draws (and some backdoors) should be c-bets in position. I don't know what your iso-range is in this spot, but I'm sure you can find plenty of other combos that make more sense as check-backs. I don't see much upside for checking this one.
