If Pokerstars or other sites had come up with a kind of algorithm to fix the game somehow (or do you think they have a team of human overseers fixing the cards?), then don’t you think they’d give you and OP a more enjoyable experience to keep you playing and contributing rake? Is it maybe more likely that poker is a hugely luck-based game, and that humans are notoriously good/bad at picking out patterns in random data, and thinking it can’t actually be random?
Pokerstars runs software in their site that detects patterns in your play. They admit that. They have the technology and they use it. That's not in dispute. Why is it so hard to believe that once they have the pattern, they can run another piece of software to exploit it? You asked why they would want to make the experience miserable for us... why wouldn't they? If we never leave and just keep losing tremendous rakes to them, would you stop? Would you get up and leave the table and stop taking my money just to be a nice guy? Would you let me win one once in awhile just to keep me there if I've already proved I'm never going to leave? If we're happy to stay there and lose, they're happy to keep dealing us the cards that will ensure it happens.
I agree with the people who say OP should just quit and go find something he's good at. Maybe he'll find out he's great at restoring old cars. I'd love to see the guy discover something like that and be happy. But I'm going to make a prediction here. Yeah, Op plays terrible poker but I'll make a guess, and I already know I'm right about it. Party Poker is the only site he plays at, and Party Poker knows it. They know he's got no place else to go. And they know he can't bring himself to quit. If Op was to sign up at another site ACR or 888 or someplace else, as bad a donk, nit, fish as he might be, his results would immediately improve at that other site. Then after a month or so playing there, he should go back to Party Poker, I guarantee they lift the cooler on him. He'll still lose because he's a bad player. But it won't be nearly as dramatic.
I'll tell you how I finally came to realize I was right and it wasn't just paranoia. "Pokerstars is out to get me." I was on the typical all day J4, 92, 75 run of starting hands. I played 4 or 5, three table sit&gos, more or less blinded off every time waiting for cards. I played the big $3.30. I actually made the cash but my stats were something like 150 hands dealt, I saw the flop 14 times, won 1 out of 3 and 4 without showdown. But the couple I won were big enough to get me to the bubble. Anyway I decide to go play some 9 seat .2/.5 cash. That's the only place I don't have to pay antes, I can let muck hands go with no penalty. I only have to pay for 2 out of nine.
There's a guy in there, flop hog, calling every other hand, running people over post flop, just like I was doing when my cooler started. He got away with it a bunch of times. Then he got caught a few in a row and cooled down. That's when he types into the chat, "you guys should see the cards I'm playing with." We start chatting...
"Glad to hear it's not just me."
"cards are horrible."
"totally, all it get is 95, and the 9 never hits"
"if the 9 hits you better have three of them."
I knew exactly what he meant by that last statement. When you're on the cooler, the worst thing that can happen is to hit top pair. Your two nines are already beat by a PP, or the turn/river comes A, K and you're dead. When you're on the cooler you watch it happen all day long. That's when I knew it wasn't just me. They were doing it to other people too. That day I played probably 500 hands of poker. I never had a straight, never had a flush, never had trips. I had top pair maybe 10 times, probably 5 of them held up. That's how bad it is when you trigger the cooler. It's not like you guys seem to imagine. Oh it's just kind of a little bit of a bad luck streak. It's Armageddon in every way.
I don't doubt some of you have even experienced it. But you never recognize it for what it is because you believe in Poker Santa Claus. This degenerate gambler, scumbag, who lives in Costa Rica to avoid any regulatory scrutiny, doesn't care in the least about making billions of dollars and how to make even more, who hands out pocket Aces to all good little girls and boys because he's such a nice, decent, morally upright person. I'm not the one who believes in fairy tales.
