Hi all,

hand is from today. it is a bit similar in some points to the hand i posted yesterday, for those who remember/read.
otf i bet to protect against his fds. i did not 3bet to keep bluffs in his range (as learned from the other hand yesterday) and tbh i was a bit scared of a 9, which is in his range a lot i think. surely he has a lot of fds as well, but does he really play them like this? this c/r after just calling pre looks so much like sets+ to me.
ott i cannot fold. raise could be an option too, but not sure which play is better.
otr id say he has either 9x or a missed fd. i need ~30%, so this is a clear call?
in general (@2NL) i just dont know how to interpret villains c/r otf after just calling pf. it looks really strong to me and i'm unsure if i can expect anything else than sets+.

OTR he's telling you he has Kx beat, and who's to say you're not smooth calling him with a 9? The money is made at these stakes by getting worse hands to call your raises and bets - not picking off bluffs - when the majority of the folks play their hands face up. I think it's a fold.

Id fold the turn/river , and on most of the sites i play you can fold the flop. Don't panic about being exploited. For the most part poker is about playing small ball and winning small pots. And waiting for big hands and spots to win stacks ourselves. One pair hands postflop especially in single raised pots are quite easy to give up on when faced with stack decisions. If your unsure about what to do discretion is the better part of valour. How often do you play for stacks with worse than AA in villains shoes ? villain is likely the same.

I think bet more preflop.
You say your flop bet was to protect from FD. I don't think you should protect. You bet to extract value from weaker hands first. But if you want to protect from FD why did you called? Shove it yourself.
From my point of view you should play a big pot with this hand and you have to build it. You cannot do this with calls.

Imo, without reads, @2nl it's never a mistake to instafold overpairs to any raise. People are generally waaay too passive.

I hope you folded the river here in the end. His line and range is unfortunately stronger than yours. I don't think he plays the f/d on the flop this way. On a paired board he might choose to bet himself and guarantee :
1) Value for when he makes his hand
2) Folds from your worse hands (aa99k is unfortunately a sucky spot because of your hand strength).

I'd be folding this, though it might be more helpful to have a bit more information on the opponent. If it's 2NL however then this is a powerful line and one that many of the players at these levels don't like to take with air. I agree with you though, the river is certainly quite polarised but I don't think he is putting you on Aces, which makes this hard to say for me.
