99 Fold? Bad or good fold!!? 99 Fold? Bad or good fold!!?

partypoker - $0.02 NL (6 max) - Holdem - 5 players

Is my fold too Nit? or was it a good fold?

SB: 92 BB (VPIP: 50.32, PFR: 29.55, 3Bet Preflop: 12.32, Hands: 314)
Hero (BB): 144 BB
UTG: 100 BB (VPIP: 30.77, PFR: 14.36, 3Bet Preflop: 5.45, Hands: 381)
CO: 100 BB (VPIP: 26.57, PFR: 16.14, 3Bet Preflop: 5.26, Hands: 291)
BTN: 121 BB (VPIP: 32.29, PFR: 17.35, 3Bet Preflop: 5.49, Hands: 420)

SB posts SB 0.5 BB, Hero posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has 9 9

fold, CO raises to 3 BB, fold, fold, Hero calls 2 BB

Is this call a blunder? Should I have raised? (if so, what size?)

Flop: (6.5 BB, 2 players) 5 2 4
Hero checks, CO bets 4 BB, Hero calls 4 BB

I was playing a check call, I thought it was ok to check my over pair.

Turn: (14.5 BB, 2 players) K
Hero checks, CO bets 9 BB, fold

He showed quiet strength so I supposed that my 99 was weak vs his top range, so I folded.

CO wins 23 BB

PF I'd definitely 3b BB vs BU but I think a call vs CO is fine. On your hud I'd add villain Fold vs Resteal as if it is low we can definitely add this in our value 3b range and if it is high we can lean more towards a call.

Flop is an easy check call. You ask if it is ok to check here implying that you were thinking about donking out OTF which I would never advise given villain is the aggressor and has more nutted combos in his range.

OTT I think a fold or call is fine. This is sort of confusing advice, but I would call sometimes and fold sometimes (not sure at what frequencies). If we fold all the time on this turn then villain can exploit us by overbluffing so we need to call sometimes to be balanced. You mention that you think 99 is weak vs the top of villains range. While this is true, 99 is very strong vs the bottom of villains range. A stat I'd also be curious to see is villain cbet flop and turn. If both are relatively low villain's range is probably more value heavy and if both are high range is probably more bluff heavy.

Thanks, bro. Nice piece of advice, I totally agreed so my fold was ok.
This is the stats you mentioned:
c-bet flop: 34
c-bet turn: 30
fold to steal 3bet : 25

I am 3 betting this hand a lot. You have a strong hand BB vs CO with the additional fold equity if the raiser folds. AP the flop I would check/call which is good as I believe if CO is a good reg he will be c betting this board very often and is a good board for 9's. On the turn I would call again. It is super exploitable to fold an overpair to the flop when a high card hits the turn. If he is bluffing he probably won't try to bluff river and I believe you have the best hand here a lot of the time. If he hit the king then so be it but if you are folding turn to an overcard it is certainly -ev in the long run.

I would also 3bet pre. Flop is good. Turn could go either way. Maybe like 60 percent calls 40 percent folds

I'm fine with flatting this hand preflop. Kind of sucks when were gonna flop an underpair most of the time, but we're not in good shape vs a 3bet calling range and our hand is obviously too strong to fold.

Flop is well played. If you wan't to have a donking range here this hand is probably a good candidate for it, but it's going to be hard to balance and check/calling is fine.

I'm never folding on this turn unless I have a read that villain is super passive. The K is a great card for villain to continue bluffing on and they just have so much air here! AJ, AT, QJ, QT, T9, 98, ect... There are some bad river cards that we have to give up on but that's fine. I would expect villain to check back a lot of rivers as well.

v cbets like 34% and second barrels 30%... Does v have many bluffcombos in the range?

Like the call pre, but would probably checkraise otf and be done with the hand if called.

Hand is played fine. I wouldn't raise otf. I'm also calling ott since I don't have many Kx hands.

I'd 3-bet this almost always vs CO. Call turn. It's a card that people barrel almost always but don't hit as much as they think.

Would also 3-bet PF but I sometimes call against a HJ open.

c/c flop -> c/c turn -> c/decide river. 99 is fairly high up in our range because we're 3-betting better pocket pairs PF and we can't have much in the way of Kx combos after we c/c flop OOP.

You played this well vs this particular villain. He's passive enough to exploitatively fold. I agree with others about calling turn vs unknown.
