PokerStars - $0.02 NL (6 max) - Holdem - 5 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

SB: 141 BB
BB: 100 BB
UTG: 263.5 BB
CO: 102.5 BB
Hero (BTN): 101.5 BB

SB posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has 3 3

fold, fold, Hero raises to 2.5 BB, SB raises to 8.5 BB, fold, Hero calls 6 BB

Flop: (18 BB, 2 players) K 3 4
SB checks, Hero checks

Turn: (18 BB, 2 players) 2
SB checks, Hero bets 10 BB, SB calls 10 BB

River: (38 BB, 2 players) 8
SB bets 23 BB, Hero???

Villain is 37/29 with 10% 3bet over 36 hands.

I get fancy on the flop by checking back because I watched too many poker videos this afternoon and decided to keep sets in my check back range in a 3b pot.

V checks turn and I bet to get this pot going.

Edit: can't fix title since villains bet isn't a donk.

never check this back on the flop. you really want to bet these low sets as they don't block his continuing range. AP just call imo.

Personally I wouldn't call a 3bet with 33. If you can't see a flop cheap it's not worth playing such a hand against a 3bet range.

I don't think checking back the flop is the worst play since it's not likely he would improve on the turn, but I think it's a bit too fancy for nl2. I'd just bet.

On the turn I'd bet bigger. I don't think there's any hand in his range that he would call a half-pot bet with but would fold to a larger bet.

On the river I'd raise. Even if 100% of his bets here are value bets, there just aren't many hands that beat you and you can get some value from AA, AK, KQ and maybe QQ, JJ. The only hands in his range that beat you are KK and occasionally a flush, but that aren't many combos.

33 isn't going to be a hugely profitable hand to call 3bets with pre, although solvers do it so it can't be too bad. However, if you're going to call pre, you absolutely have to be hammering for value when you hit a set. Flop is a clear bet, villain can have so many Kx and pocket pairs which have to call, as well as some hands like AQ or AJ that shouldn't be folding too often to a bet here. And the main advantage of having a set of 3s is that villain is unlikely to have a 3, and not that likely to call with it even if they did. The only sets or 2 pair hands you want to be checking flop with any sort of reasonable frequency is top set/top two.

As the turn brings in a flush draw and a straight draw for any A, 5, or 6, villain's continuing range against even a fairly large bet should be fairly sizeable, you should be betting a little bigger I reckon. An overbet isn't out of the question, but anything above 2/3 pot should be decent.

River, clearly, you should not be folding. Your hand is very under-repped, but the question is whether you should raise. Here, I think you have to make a judgement call. If you feel villain or the player pool would take this line with a K, and call a raise with a K, then go for it. If you don't, I don't think you're getting called by enough worse hands (as two pairs are pretty unlikely here) to warrant a raise.
