MP is sitting on 52 BBs and is your typical limpy fish who in the 50 or so hands I had against him always made it clear when he had a hand and was content to just check it down when he didn't.

SB is sitting on 104 BBs and I have him marked as a standard TAG.

Hero has been on a bit of a rush up to this point and had been playing/making a lot of hands.

preflop: MP limps, hero raises to 4 BBs, SB calls, MP calls.

flop: J62 pot: 13 BBs

it checks to me and I check it back. (anybody like a bet here?)

turn: J pot: 13 BBs

SB bets 7 BBs, MP calls, I call

river: 5 pot: 34 BBs

they both check and I bet 20 BBs


I was reviewing some hands with a poker friend of mine and my former coach and he felt like this was too thin as neither of these guys are going to call with worse very often and so I am just either going to get folds or get called by better majority of the time. I disagree as I think I have the best hand here a lot and see no reason not to go for value. Which way do you lean?

it's not too thin but it's not the right size.

I agree with your coach to some extent, as I don't go for thin spots like this. I would check back flop, call turn, check river, and take notes on what both villains had. In some instances I'd even fold the turn, as it's not unreasonable for at least one of these villains to have a jack or 66/22.

I like a check or a bet of 10 - 12BB

I think it's well played, you could get calls from 77, 88, 99, 76.

I like it since I think pairs are fairly inelastic otr and you very likely have the best 2 pair given the action.

Bet flop I think for protection. Also it’s a range bet

I agree with your coach that you will get called rarely with worse. But that`s because your bet is too big. You want to make them call really light with something around 10 bb.
