This has been a standard line of mine...I'm just posting this because I've been on a downswing and did some line checks yesterday and am doing some today to make sure I'm not getting too wild.

$200 effective, HJ is VPIP 20%-32% and PFR>15%, BTN is VPIP 33%-50% and PFR<20%.

OTTH

Hero randomizes and gets 25% to open 6 5 $5 LJ, HJ calls, BTN calls.

Flop ($18): J 8 4. Hero checks, HJ bets $9, BTN calls, hero raises to $40, HJ calls, BTN folds.

Turn ($107): 9. Hero shoves for $155. Thoughts? FWIW, I would've played JJ and 88 the same way.

Do you think villain will fold Jx hands and better flush draws? What better hands are you trying to get villain to fold?

You are over playing your hand.

Yeah, I was trying to get Jx and better draws to fold. Do it seems like you're just x-c flop and turn? I just don't like it because we have such a high equity draw, and if we have any FE at all otf it's a super profitable x-r...Also if we x-c flop and turn, we can't play for stacks if we hit.

Raise size on flop ends up making the turn weird. You can't bet small on turn without making your river bet too small, and he sigh calls because the price is good. So you need to shove, but he just calls with Jx because he sees an endless number of draws.

I would rather raise ~$30, making the turn $55 into $75, leading to a 60% pot shove on river. If you think villain hero-calls a brick river, you can x/f and get out of there without losing your stack.

Otherwise, just x/c and hope to hit playing 3-way.

Too ambitious in a multiway pot out of position. After he calls the big raise on the flop hes usually not going anywhere. I prefer not to open the suited connectors from early position for exactly this reason, you just get into trouble when you flop so many mediocre draws and low pairs. Even if you hit 2 pair on the flop youre not feeling great. I would just fold this 100% from LJ, and open it a little from HJ at a passive or fishy table.

Yeah, raising to $30 and then $55 on the turn makes a lot of sense. I like that line more.

According to GTO solved ranges we should be opening these suited connectors 25%, and my coach said that we should actually be just resorting to GTO for everything pre flop until we see a reason not to,.

I prefer x/c flop. Your straight outs are not clean as a 7 also improves T9 to the nuts. A lot of the flush draws HJ will continue with like KTss and QTss pick up equity so I don't think you get many folds on the turn. I think this is a case where your hand looks much better than it is especially being in a mw situation.

I like taking this line with strong draws sometimes. We have to be fairly selective with our hand selection though as the pot is multiway and we are repping a very narrow and strong value range- JJ/88/QTss/44 (if you open it) so 7 or 10 combos depending on whether or not you open 44. We already have all nut flush draws (which are better hands to do this with because they dominate weak combo draws like this hand) and T9ss here so we may be overdoing it if we start adding in this combo too.

Would be interested to here others' thoughts.
