Hey everyone, this hand was played on the app PokerBros.

$100 effective. According to the app, V currently has a 20-32% VPIP, a PFR>15, and is running normal. Notes on him: “x/r 872r vs. 33% c-bet w/ JJs and shoved Kx turn in a 3-bet pot.”

Pre-flop: Hero RFI UTG $3 with Q Q and V 3-bets BB $11.00. I rolled a really low number, so decided to call this time.

Flop ($22.50): 10 9 8. V checks. Hero checks.

Turn ($22.50): 10 9 8 6. V checks again. Hero bets $9. V calls.

River ($40.50): 10 9 8 6 9. V checks. Hero bets $20.

Thoughts? Mostly wondering if I should start betting on the flop.

Think check otf is fine, we do not need a great deal of protection and getting x/r'd would be very gross. The rest seems OK to me, maybe bet slightly bigger ott if we are going to bet, but idk weird spot.

Bet the flop almost every time. Overpair, gutshot, tons of lesser hands giving you action.

As played, I bet less on the river, maybe $12-15, but I've bet into my share of buzzsaws here. Mixing bets and checks.

Why didnt you 4bet pre. Thats a pretty big misstep. Also always betting flop. This is a good flop for use as villain won't have made a hand a lot but can easily call a bet with worse [AK, AJ, JJ]

I don't mind checking flop at all some freq. Villain should have a strong checking range here OTF, where villains JJ/QQ will be bet more often than AA/KK I think. Should be reasonable for villain to range check flop too IMO.

River is a bit thin. The most likely hand we are getting called by is something like KTs, JTs. I think most other hands you get value from bet somewhere. We really don't want to reopen the action by betting very small like 1/3 OTR, and betting big seems thin. That said betting is probably OK, and the sizing makes sense for this specific combo but not that much for our range I guess.

Thanks guys.

Snarky: i don’t have this as a 100% freq 4-bet UTG vs. BB and V seemed to be playing standard pre so thought I’d just go with the RNG output.

ShipNickle: Yeah, I guess flop could go either way then? I got called by worse here, but I do agree this is probably too thin for this sizing with my range. Checking back at a mid-high frequency here makes sense.
