Lose the glasses IMO. Contact lenses.
12-27-2013 , 12:53 PM
Love the look of the coat buttoned so just keep it like that. I think you can pull it off. Also I have a feeling your watch is on the wrong hand. Fix that.

Cool. Ye it is really weird. I always wear my watch on the left hand and I am staring at the pick for a while now figuring out how in the hell it can show up on the right, because I am 100% sure I didnt put my watch on my right wrist.

Edit: I thought the unbuttoned version looked better, but maybe that's just me

Buttoned is 10000% better, and I like it.

Definitely don't wear it with the chinos in the second pic.

That coat is a perfect example of an item that you would buy as a third, fourth or fifth coat. The color is not versatile.

You should start with a navy coat, then charcoal and go from there.

In the beginning, people should really stick to navy and grey/khaki for most of their items.
Navy more for the upper body, khaki and beige for pants and grey mostly pants as well (although a grey sweater is versatile with a jeans for example).

A lot of items look cool by themselves, but they dont go with anything else.
Ridiculous colored shoes come to mind. A pair of green shoes can look great, but honestly, there arent many outfits where green is the optimal shoe color.

Guys... Heard of mirrors?
12-27-2013 , 01:25 PM
Your watch is on the left wrist. It's how mirrors work.
12-27-2013 , 01:56 PM
Agree with spurious. Its a good jacket but very hard to rock it with different types of clothing. Watch should be worn on your left hand assuming you're right handed.
12-27-2013 , 02:04 PM
#1 picture is infinitely better. Style/cut of the jacket is good, but I would go for grey-ish version. Bright yellow/beige is way too conspicuous. At least in my opinion.

Would also do something about the haircut.
12-27-2013 , 02:40 PM
I said the watch thing under the impression he would use dominant hand to take pic and watch goes on non dominant hand.
12-27-2013 , 03:28 PM
The coat is conspicuous I agree, that was why I asked if I could pull it off. If I just walk with some confidence I think I'll be fine.

I dont really understand why it wouldnt be versitale. It's agree it is not possible to wear on those chino's, but I am now just googling some pictures and there are a lot of different looks that look good with it.
What should I definitely not wear under this coat?

------

It was storming today so that was what kinda ruined my haircut. My usual haircut is not that much better however. Anyone with the same hair (long, semi-curly, hard to control) with some suggestions?

Ok cool. My hair style is the general student look in my city. Like you can see it's a little curly which makes it tougher to control.

This is what it usually looks like. It gets all messy throughout the day because my gel is a little too weak (gonna try Murphy's superior). I dont really love it, but I dont really know what else to do with it. I would prefer to keep longish hair since it makes me look older.

the aaronramsey thing is mostly also a UK thing, and it sucks imo. please go ahead and do it if you wish to look like a clone of every other young male in the UK. Whilst your at it, buy some cuffed chinos and a printed t-shirt that says Miami.

This, you should prepare a little more when you go out shopping, make a list of things you want, start with staple items of clothing/colours. The coat you bought is one that should of been bought further a long down the road when your wardrobe is already looking reasonable. I'm not a fan but I think you can pull it off.

this article shuold help you, camel is just less versatile than colours like navy/grey. The different looks youre seeing should come once you already have the most versatile items (navy blazer, grey trousers) etc. Imo.

wrt article i linked, i think some of there recommendations are hit and miss, some i absolutely hate but they tend to try and cover everything from casual to formal so use your best judgement. I think the overall written content is good though.

I'm confussed about the Aaron Ramsey reference. Also, how he's dressing (although it's quite common here) is a different style to the chinos and printed t-shirt look.

Is it called the Aaron Ramsey look in the UK? Well, I bought a double-breasted camel coat so hardly a clone anymore, but I definitely get your point. My problem is that I dont really have much alternatives (considering I want to keep long hair) that I am able to style myself.

I prepared pretty well and wasnt planning at all to buy a coat let alone camel coloured. It was on sale though and I kinda wanted to experiment for once and just try something different. The article is a great find btw.

i think all of this looks good and puts you ahead of 95% of guys, except i'm not crazy about those shoes + those jeans together, but that's just being nitty. i'd go brown shoes over black.

Also, back to the contrasting formality rule, since you have a dress shirt under the sweater, chinos or dress pants are a much better option. If you were just wearing the sweater with nothing underneath it then jeans are fine.
i disagree with this

Agreed that brown shoes might work better. The picture is a little deceiving too. Much larger contrast irl. Didn't notice before I posted. Also chose black since it was the only pair I had with rubber soles. Had to traverse the snowy streets of Manhattan to see that god-forsaken tree that day.

I think the collar in/out thing is much more a personal preference than you guys are making it out to be. Definitely not cut and dry. How does one go about keeping a collar with stays like that stuffed in there anyways?
agree w all of this

i was mostly being sarcastic and ranting about how people in the UK dress.

I don't think so. If somethings on sale then i guess its ok, generally i have an idea of what i need to buy and wont allow myself to buy anything else unless im certain i can wear it with a lot of things i already own.

The site, in general, is pretty good. Might be worth reading through some articles. You'll learn a lot.

This doesnt look all that bad. Its not amazing, and its a polarizing style that will hurt you with a lot of girls but will help you a lot with some too(i imagine it hurts you with more girls than it helps, but when it helps, its hook-line-sinker). But overall is decent.

You could try short-ish on the sides and longer on top:

Or even shorter on sides for this look:

I dont know how curly your hair is short.
12-27-2013 , 08:26 PM
Also product in that length hair is going to not be all that effective no mater what you do.
12-27-2013 , 08:42 PM
i would 100% get a haircut, 2nd one looks good.
12-27-2013 , 09:02 PM
those photos custer posted are not nearly as good as his current hair

also depends where he is located, i'm guessing northern europe?

netherlands and lolwat, 2nd pic is way better

Need some help. Going out to a club in DC for new years. I'm used to just going with a college crowd, but I've graduated and am going out with slightly older (25ish) young professional crowd. I feel like I need to check my style.

Willing to spend a hundo or two on something new if I need it but that's really all. Original plan was black squared toe shoes (either dress or loafers) dark jeans with a mild wash on the front, and a bright(ish) purple shirt (bit risky, but chics always seem to love it.)

I think I'm leveling myself by reading internet articles. Some say you gotta wear jeans, some say never wear jean etc. So I've come to SL for a final decision. Don't care about looking amazing at this point (need more money) I'm just trying to look half decent and not make a fool of myself.
