Regarding polos:
I'd go with Kent Wang, they are $65 for short sleeves, so a bit more expensive than the $38 RL polos, but I think they are of higher quality.

I havent bought a polo in ages before buying the Kent Wang one, so I have no idea how the quality of various polos has developed, but compared to the RL and Lacoste polos I've previously had, the KW ones are definitely better. The fabric feels better, is thicker and I quite like the collar, as it's more like a shirt collar.

I have an XL custom fit and its too big, but not hugely so. FWIW I'm 6'3, 34" pant size, relatively broad shoulders. Concern is large custom will be too small and large tall might be too baggy?

Is it a dick move to pull the trigger online on 1 of each and then exchange the two that fit worst? Does RL have a good returns policy?

For $38 it seems stupid not to pull the trigger on a few
i think you will be best with a large custom but dont see any problem in buying several and returning a few

FWIW Ralph Lauren polos are the equivalent of ~$120 a piece here and a ridiculously large amount of pretentious guys between 14 and 35 wear them. Especially the ones with huge, ugly logos. It's really funny, actually.
07-23-2013 , 10:39 AM
the huge logo ones are obviously ridiculous
07-23-2013 , 11:27 AM
Good thing the normal logo ones are beautiful.

07-23-2013 , 03:20 PM
of course they are

Yeah I somewhat agree re logos. If we were talking your A grade clothes, like going out button downs, or anything for work I would 100% agree. I hate a lot of RL button downs.

I think for a casual wardrobe staple though it's not so bad. Whether we like it or not, most people at first glance who see a RL logo will have a positive reaction. The majority of people don't know anything about fashion, and so brand names unfortunately do have some weight.

Also I think the small logo is pretty discreet, the large one is obviously terrible. I also think being in Australia where everything is twice as expensive also puts it slightly in the pro column. Lol Australian prices

It's not like RL has a great fit or cheap price or anything to justify the logo though (at least for my body type, which is 5'11" 165). There are just equal or better logo-less options at that price point.

TBF, the custom polos might be better fitting than whatever their slimmest fit dress shirts which I'm going off of.

RL custom fit polos are elite imo.

Any Canadians can give good online shopping suggestions?

Just bought the Park avenues on special at nordstrom, will buy the Neumoks when I get there since not on special. Also bought an AE Manistee belt. Also tried a couple of the calibrate shirts since they seem highly rated and cheap, and a lot of cheap dress socks. Got 2x CF polos, 2x CF T's and a hoodie from RL.

I think my wardrobe is finally at the stage where it's basically good to go and just add one item or so a month to. **** it's been expensive haha. I've probably dropped like 4k this year and everything basically has been on sale. It's such a slow process building up from basically nothing. 1 polo and 1 t shirt were all that made the cut from my previous wardrobe. 1 NY resolution checked off

To be honest, you will get addicted to clothing pretty quickly and 1 piece each month will not be satisfying.

But congrats on your achievement.

This might get lol'd at but what do you guys think of tieing a sweater around your dress shirt or polo (looks like a tie kinda)? Its a really waspy/preppy look but idk if its worth doing unless you live in a really rich area. Thoughts on this look? I honestly think it probably looks toolish (especially where i live- syracuse, ny lol).

Do yourself a favor and reserve this look for Carlton Banks.

I do this quite often in spring/fall.
If it's not yet cold enough to wear a sweater, but it might be at a later time. Where else would you wear/store it?
07-24-2013 , 09:49 PM
I only do that when I'm out in the hamptons

I just turned 20 and am in the process of creating a college wardrobe. Figured I would post this as it is almost time for most people to go back to school.

So far I have:

4 button down shirts
2 v neck sweaters, 1 black 1 grey
1 navy cardigan
1 pair dark denim jeans
2 pairs chinos, 1 khaki 1 dark navy blue.
1 pair brown sperrys,
1 pair beeswax chukkas
1 pair white leather chucks

What would you add to the collection?

I'm thinking a few more button downs, a pair of grey chinos, and not really sure what else.

Thanks for the input.

more of everything(except jeans and shoes), some regular t's, peacoat at a cursory glance.

Also dress clothes like dress shoes and **** but I was just looking at casual clothes.
07-26-2013 , 09:04 PM
Yeah I think a bit more colour in your choices as well. All seems to be navy/grey/khaki. Fine for colder months but probably want a few brighter options for summer
07-26-2013 , 10:48 PM
My shirts have color to them but will definitely get a few bright sweaters and cardigans.

Yeah Custer, not really worried about dress clothes. Mostly looking for what to wear to class/parties.

bright isnt really all that good in a lot of cases, just colorful. Especially dont get bright sweaters

If colorful means multiple colors on the same item, then hell no.
07-27-2013 , 01:16 AM
It means colorful. Or clothes that have a wide array of color to them.

Also there are certain items that are fine to by the same item in different colors:chino/chino shorts, plain tees, some sweaters and **** like that) Obviously you shouldn't have just 1 piece of clothing for everything and just get it all in different colors, like you shouldn't only buy 1 type of sweater but getting a couple of the same sweater in different colors is fine.
07-27-2013 , 01:38 AM
I think we misunderstood each other.

I had in mind the following for colorful:
07-27-2013 , 01:44 AM
O i read "on the same item" as "of the same item". Ya dont wear that.
