Slipping Away Slipping Away

I am a senior in high school. I have been accepted to my college of choice. So long as I don't recieve F's and such I will not get kicked out. What is my motivation? I am a good student but I am failing to see why I should try...at all.

I know that I am not the only person who has experienced this. I would like some advice, anything to help convince me to stop playing my super turbos and do this stupid essay on The Importance of Being Earnest.

Very common. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Senioritis

Do what you need to do to not jeopardize your college plans. The motivations there should be obvious. Beyond that I can't speak to.

I'm in a similar boat. Senior in college, got a great job offer for the fall, but first I need to graduate in June. This obviously wouldn't even have been an issue normally, except I failed a class (and got a D in another) last semester because I literally just stopped doing all homework in both classes after midterms (I passed both finals, but got the F because there's a policy of failing someone no matter what if they miss too many hw assignments).

So now I have to get off my lazy ass and find a way to handle a ridiculous course-load this semester and a thesis. My only motivation now is that I want to get the heck out of this h*ll-hole and NOT F*CK UP MY LIFE. I used to actually enjoy my major and doing interesting stuff in classes. Now I am completely 100% focused on doing whatever it takes to pass my classes and graduate on time.

This may not sound like it applies to you, because it sounds like you probably have a really easy time in school. Really though, what I'm trying to say is, figure out what it is you want to get out of this semester/year/next 4 years/the rest of your life, and focus on doing that. If all you care about is getting into college, and you only need straight D's, and you really want to spend the rest of your time goofing off/hanging out with friends/enjoying being a kid, then f*ck, by all means, go for it. On the other hand, if part of you cares about what you're learning, or cares about having the respect of your teachers or parents or whoever, and that you don't want to let them down, then decide on what a reasonable goal is for you (A's and B's, B's and C's, whatever), and do that.

Figure out what you want. Really, truly think about it. And don't worry so much about what you "should" be doing.

Dude, just plow through with a solid average. College is awesome. Let me repeat. Awesome. You do not want to miss out on it. Remember those college movies? Yeah, it's exactly like the movies minus the car flipping (yeah, I'm kinda bummed out that I've spent 1.5 semesters at McGill and didn't even get a chance to flip a car).

Next time you feel like not trying or not doing homework, go grab a slurpee or something from the nearest 7-11. If you like what the cashier is doing for a job and visualize yourself in that position....continue not doing homework.

Solid advice here (I'm not a cashier, but I'm not doing much better).

I had no focus or ambition. I coasted because I could get away with it, but when things got harder, I didn't up my game. I thought that since I couldn't imagine a job that I would enjoy doing, it didn't matter if I ****ed up. I knew I was being stupid at the time and I know it even better now. Some jobs are better than others and they compensate at different rates ldo.

I wouldn't listen to me either, but don't fall into a bad routine.

this is why you schedule slacker classes your last semester of HS

do you live in Canada or US?

i can see being overwhelmed by college in Canada. Likely low-income when you get out, basically high school part two.

College in the US sounds like a dream. Girls, parties, beer, girls, living away from home, girls.

dude senior year is a joke, just get Cs and you get accepted. Honestly it's not hard to just get all C's and B's even without trying why put in effort when you're there.
