Usually girls my age can't handle a phone call, but I'll spend the first couple minutes teasing her and saying that the quiet guy told me she was being mean and I have to keep her in line. That should make it less awkward, if I decide to go that route. Then I'll try to set up something at the beach probably. I haven't really thought about it.

If you have one random party etc / short term dating / whatev hook up and one real girlfriend per year, that is 8 girls right there during college. So if you slept w/ a girl or two in high school, that's 10 right there. Now, of course that's not everyone's experience, but it's common enough that 10 is not some super big deal. And that's from a guy who, like Mittens, went to pretty much a nerd factory. Party schools the average numbers are way higher.
I went to a state school, which is why I was pretty confident in my assumptions. We probably had more sex than most. I really thought I had a decent sample size of friends, multiple groups of guys from different areas - nerds, stoners, frat boys. I felt confident in what I was saying cause my freshman year I lived close to some frat boys and everyone heard about it every time they got action. I'd say about 2-3 a year was accurate, but these were the richest, best looking, hardest trying guys on campus and 2-3 seems low to me.

As for dating multiple women at the same time, it seems pretty rare in college. But once people are in the working world, it's def different. Among the people who go out to bars and parties and generally socialize a decent amount, it's not uncommon to be casually dating a number of people at the same time. It's super standard when in the first few dates range, less standard but not uncommon when people have been dating casually for a month or two, and pretty rare (this is generally "players" only) for people to have multiple overlapping multi-month+ girlfriends.
The way that it was phrased I for some reason was imagining multiple overlapping multi-month things. But yeah I think the first few dates it's somewhat reasonable for a good looking, normal guy to have multiple dates if he is trying.

Also, I think it was Karak or Mittens that asked why I didn't try to hook up with M that night. Good question. A couple years ago I'd have gone for it. But since then I've gotten laid enough that one lay isn't that important. I'd much rather miss out on a potential one night stand for the opportunity to have a more regular thing later on. And from my experiences, a one night stand is one night only, but you can wait till the second meeting and do it then and have a lasting thing.

That said, I'd have gone for it if it was a sure thing, but it wasn't. Maybe I oversold my position in the TR -- at the end she had gotten up and was talking to some other people, and I was sitting talking to my friend. Then I got up and met her at the bar, told her I was leaving. I wanted to get out while I was still ahead. I felt things were cooling and if I'd have tried to get her out of there, it wouldn't have worked and would have greatly hurt my odds of meeting up with her some other day. Another issue is that she was with a bunch of friends, so I figured she wouldn't want them to know she was going home with a guy she just met.

so umm, which is it?

do you have any reasoning at all?
08-03-2010 , 01:22 PM
in at least PA for sure that would be illegal; you need to be w/in 4 years of the girl (that's my understanding dont quote me) if she's under 18

22-17 is such a huge jump in maturity, age, etc. why would you do it?

BG was 19 and i was 24 and that was obv a mistake

yeah, I think high schoolers are still kids whether they admit it or not, and it's morally wrong for a 22 y/o man to take advantage of that. The other points are a bit arbitrary but reflect my belief that you shouldn't make use of a maturity disparity for sexual gain.
08-03-2010 , 01:35 PM
illegal is a good enough reason to stay away. Here in Canada the age of consent is 16 ( used to be 14).

mittens,
saying it is morally wrong doesn't make it so. Furthermore age is not an exact indicator of a person's maturity level. Not all 17 year old girls are immature and not all 22 year old guys are mature. Maturity is too general of a word though and for you to come up with something meaningful it would have to be more specific.
08-03-2010 , 01:36 PM
never before has something been covered so 100% accurately and 100% efficiently as in mittens' post. bravo.

edit: derty while there are 17 year old girls who are definitely mature, there is a huge difference between plain maturity and emotional maturity.

the 22-17 year old reaction is exactly what i expected.

it just seemed to be happening extremely frequently in the area that i live, with like 4 or 5 couples with that difference. even a 21-16 but was 19-14 at one points, proper sick. seems very wrong to be honest. just getting the general opinion from everyone else.

also it is in the UK, so no one is doing anything illegal, shouldnt make a difference morally though.

also.... just remembered another 30-17

also, the ones so far have generally been

also for the categories they are

grad-HS
then tbh the others have left school, either at 16 or 18 and are in the working world. which maybe does change things

the pigeon detectives have also had this problem

I don't hookup with girls >2 years younger than me, ever, under any circumstances. But I'm a little extreme.
