Pretty sure that's cans. I looked at a couple liquor stores around me online and Bud Light and Budweiser are the exact same price. Sounds like it might vary other places though.

30 cans, and I have never seen keystone/natty that cheap in my life...Cheapest we get is 12.99. Beer stores get them for over 10$ so I dont know why they would sell for 9.99(or at least beer stores here, my buddy worked at one in college)

Also, why do people drink light beer? I've had light beer maybe twice in my life, it's just disgusting. There is 0 taste in it.

they were only that cheap when they were doing some sort of promotion and on saturdays and mondays after a home football game. usual price is 11.99 at same store.

I really dont give a f*** what other people think what or how much I drink when I actually go out, and yes they are college bars where most people are drinking bud light drafts or something like that.

Also Rum and Diet Coke is solid and I may look into diet redbull and vodka

Sorry Cops
Hi Haters

and henry, even thought it is light beer it is tough to imagine that it would take more than 15-20 for anyone to get drunk so youre looking at $5.50-7.25 to get drunk and that includes taxes. That is why college kids and guys in their low to mid-20s drink light beer. It is, by far, the most effective way to get drunk. Getting a buzz cost <$3.

Plus drinking games are super popular in college and even after especially in the South. I'd take Bud Light for beer pong, flip cup, quarters, any other drinking game over any beer I'm pretty sure.

I have never in my life seen the same store price Bud Light and Budweiser differently. Keystone and Keystone Light are always the same price in the same store. The same for Busch and Busch Light, so on and so forth.

The only way I can figure that you are this wildly confused is that you simply don't drink beer at all regularly. No one who picks up beer at the store on an even semi-regular basis could think this.

I was buying beer earlier this week and looked at both before settling on nicer beer in six packs. a 24 of budweiser was 21.99 and a 24 of bud light was 18.99. this is standard at every place I have bought beer in GA and NC.

It also makes perfect sense for the store as it prevents people from engaging in alcohol arbitrage.

This is how I remember it, too. We are in the same part of the country though. I'm going to the biggest liquor store in Atlanta in an hour or so. I'll report back.

That is US beer prices. Beer here is $1.30-1.33 a beer if you buy at least 15. 6 packs and 12 packs it works out to over $1.50 per beer. That is for discount beer. Normal beer I usually get a 15 pack of Kieth's and it is $24.50 so $1.63 a beer. Stella is my other beer and it is ~$2 a beer. This is drinking at home which is fine after a long day but not really something that I'd consider social.

It would be interesting to see what would happen if booze was as cheap here where students can legally drink. As it is universities average two serious cases of alcohol poisoning during Frosh Week and that is with cost being a pretty big limit on drinking.

Less beer talk more TRs imo

the first tailgate of my freshmen year resulted in 21 hospitalizations afaik. thats with ~75% of the student population being underage and from a single event.

having expensive beer is not a positive. I would definitely drink liquor like you do if beer wasnt substantially cheaper.

An early drinking age helps people understand how much they can drink. It also develops a drinking culture, which makes drinking something social and prevents from stupid stuff like light beer to happen.

Haha what a ridiculous argument. On the plus side it's one we haven't had before, AFAIK, which is exciting.

In America, people buy low cal stuff (including mixed drinks at bars at a reasonable frequency)and its not looked down upon. In other countries this isn't the case. In America low cal beer is consumed by probably more people than full beer. In other countries this is not the case.

I remember my first Vegas trip, I was out with some friends of my friend, who were these tatted up guys in a rock band, very badass/tough guy look going on. First round of the night they ordered Captain and Diet... I was truly stunned. Bartender/other friends: noone batted an eyelid. It's completely standard in the US.

I have bought beer regularly in the states of Texas, Michigan, New York, and Alabama and have never seen that. I drink Bud and Bud Light normally. If Bud Light were cheaper than Bud, I would buy it every single time.

Something similar happened to me when I was in Vegas.
I was there for the Superbowl and someone from Texas told me about how him and his group of friends complained at the strip club, where they were watching the game, that they had discounted Heineken, while "people from Texas want to drink Bud Light."

But I am not sure how something like a drinking culture is an absurd argument. I think it's actually something very important.

this thread blows my mind, wtf

WHY?
09-07-2012 , 07:32 PM
I think what you drink is somewhat important. It impacts first impressions.

This.

I find when you tell/talk to people that are drinking straight, they usually just wanna get hammered as all hell.

While beer( cider in my case) I find gives off a more chilled out vibe. Plus it's easier to walk up to the bar and start conversations with attractive chicks with cider or something like that.

Just got back. Bud Heavy is the exact same price as Bud Light for any and all quantity sizes. Exact same. Guess I was wrong.

At this bar it is served ice cold, so the beer is cold for around 2hours or so...but obv we drink it sooner

I don't now if I agree. The venue really matters here. People taking shots maybe want to just get hammered and I find rye consumption and fighting is correlated but that is about it. In my experience drinking cognac was a positive and an advantage over beer.

I used to prefer cider over beer by a lot now cider is still preferred but not as much.

It is a cultural thing. Beer sales statistics show that light beer represents 50% of the US market but it represents less than 20% of the Canadian market and 80% of light beer is purchased from the Beer Store and only 20% is consumed in licensed venues. 60% of the light beer sold in Canada is Coor's Light. It is not at all surprising that I've never seen anyone drink one given the girly association with drinking light beer and the low market share.
