at my institution, finals are set before the semester begins and there is a strict policy that professors cannot change the date of a final under any circumstances unless directed by the dean, glad it worked out for you though.

Quick question

say the teacher said no, you missed it you have to get a zero who do you go to next?

Chair of the Dept or straight to the dean? these situations you have to be careful because you do not want to be the one going over anyone's head

Many universities and colleges require faculty to put this disclaimer on their sylabi for this exact reason. There have been court cases over things like this and courts have ruled consistently that a syllabus is NOT a binding contract.

Having said that, most colleges and universities have uniform final schedules which faculty have to follow. I've never even heard of a place without a final schedule set in stone.

who the **** goes to class, that advice is tardballs.

I've made it through TWENTY YEARS of formal education without having to go pay attention to what the teacher is saying. Sure, sometimes I had to go because it was required, but if it isn't required, why should I go sit in some classroom to doodle and daydream when i can just stay in my dorm room/apartment and watch TV and accomplish the same thing. For every hour spent in class in college, I probably had to spend 10 minutes studying to acquire the knowledge. I'll take my 50 free minutes please.

Is it possible to make it through college in America while having greater than 10% of your classes be interesting?

In order for a class to be interesting/worth going to for me it needs

1) interesting topic

2) reasonable time (not 8am)

3) interesting professor

#2 isn't so hard, but since #1 and #3 are both small minority of what is out there, and since you need both, then I'd say there has been maybe 10 classes I've taken in college and law school that I found interesting enough to attend on a regular basis.

Maybe I just take easy classes, but not since HS math have I actually benefited from the teacher's instruction in such a way that my grade would have been noticeably different. I've had some classes with really interesting professors, but that was more about learning random **** and hearing cool stories than actually "needing" to go to class for the purposes of test prep.

I definitely agree with you. I guess I made a point of taking classes that I really wanted to take. But I do admit that classes which were total bs, I didn't bother with as much, or if a prof was a total jerk. I would have rather have spent my time rereading an important text for another class than wasting time on a class that I felt was wasting my time. But I do think that I really enjoyed probably 4 out of 5 classes.

noah,

you paid 40k a year to go to your undergrad. how ****ing hard is it to sit through like 15 hours of class a week?? you can go to class and still spend 4 hours a day searching for good milf porn
12-08-2008 , 06:37 PM
buts whats the point of going to class if you can get the grades you want without it?
12-08-2008 , 07:12 PM
i can understand if you have more important **** to do. but im guessing most 2p2 posters would just spending the time scouting out pr0n and checking their email/facebook every 20 minutes hoping someone writes on their wall

I spent my time playing poker, staying out until 6am, sleeping all morning/early afternoon, watching tv, etc with friends in the afternoon. A good college schedule has no time for frills such as class.
12-08-2008 , 07:26 PM
so why are you in college then? why waste your money when you can grind 10nl ??

Going to class is stupid in a lot of cases. Honestly I probably attended somewhere from 25-50% of classes, probably on the lower end of that scale and had a perfectly reasonable 3.7 GPA.

edit: I remember one Econ class where I only attended one lecture all year long and shipped an A-, the Professor wrote the book for the class, never took attendance, and posted PowerPoint slide online. How is this bad?
