Villain's 4bet with QT in position is infinitely better than karak's call, and deep stacks really don't help the value of a hand like K8s all that much

lol @ trying to analyze play from a deep HU match readless

villain was 3betting about 60% of his hands (and i 4bet a few times and he would shove every time... he was wasted im pretty sure) and going crazy on every flop regardless of whether he hit a hand or not. he'd call 3 barrels down with a-high if i started leading into him after he 3bet. and minraises just caused him to go crazy and shove pretty much every time (he won't be pushed around)

anyways after that hand i got tilted so i started playing PLO and lost nearly my entire online bankroll

you know you had a good night of poker the night before when you wake up in the morning and the first thing you do is smash the wall next to your bed with your fist

i was on absolutely uncontrollable monkey tilt. i didnt even know what was going on. the tilt really wasn't even caused by poker... it was just the catalyst. i had had such a horrible day otherwise (cancer news with my roommate, other issues with people, my con law test which i think i bombed) and it was just the straw that broke the camel's back and i completely lost it. the sickest part is the two enormous hands i lost that pretty much finished me off i actually somehow (htrough my rage tilt) had managed to get it in as a favorite both times. lol.

really disappointed in myself. i have a solid live bankroll which is significantly larger than my online roll was anyways, but i do not want to deposit anything online, and i had just enough online to be very safely grinding NL100 hu and work on my game starting next week. now ill have to grind lower stakes to get back up there and hopefully not run bad.
05-05-2010 , 07:08 PM
Perhaps HU isn't the way to go if you're really affected by variance when combined with other situations and go on tilt? I've never done much HU simply because I know I'd get steamed by all the downswongs. Good luck with building your bankroll up again and don't let the 'lower' stakes get to you.

Change title of thread to 'SL poker happenings'?

HU is my best game which is the sad part....

i never tilt live. like i'll "tilt", but it's in the form of just making a few marginally bad decisions for a short time... nothing major... and ive gone on some sick bad runs live.

im planning on spending most of the summer playing 20/40 LHE at the borgata (the part of the summer im not doing my internship), and ill just have to stick with that. online was just gunna be a diversion.

I still dont think its a good call

Sounds like a good reason to see a flop and try to put more money in with better equity after you hit something then, as opposed to significantly cutting down on the stack-pot ratio preflop with a meh hand OOP. Deep stacks are an advantage for YOU, the better player (it gives you more control over when the money goes in and how strong your equity advantage is when that happens), but when you put in such a large % of stacks preflop you're effectively shallowing stacks which is even worse when you don't have position.

Something I'm curious about, btw - doesn't rake eat you alive at 50nl? They cap rake at $0.50 per hand, right?
05-05-2010 , 07:35 PM
rake eats around 5 PTBB/100 at NL 50, but as long as i maintain a 12 BB/100 winrate (and i have a higher one than that... i tilted all my $$ off a PLO lol) + rakeback ill be fine

i 4 table it too

if it's bad it's only marginally bad. anyways i cant really think straight right now (bad cause i have 2 finals in days to prep for... although one of them ive been ready to take for like a month now). im just really disappointed in myself and lack of self-control. that's never really happened to me before. note to self: don't play poker when real serious biz IRL is affecting you (my roommate's cancer update news really got to me, even if it was somewhat positive... what he'll have to go through is unthinkable, and i wasn't the same for the rest of the day... ive never had to deal with anything like this before so it's all shocking and new to me)
05-05-2010 , 08:06 PM
meh sorry to lifeblog here, but this roommate thing hit me harder than i think i ever anticipated it would. the dude had pretty much become like a brother to me in such a short period of time (im an only child so it's nice for me to have another dude like that in my life) and in the span of 3 weeks we went from talking about summer plans to see baseball games in NY and work on our internships and go on trips to AC and him asking me for advice on whether he should pop the Q to his gf and how he should go about it and plan for their future... to him getting ****ing chemicals pumped through him, losing his hair, having multiple surgeries to reconstruct his hip, and facing the prospect that a year from today he might be dead.

and i was in denial about ti for the last week+ or so... he's away from here now so i put it out of my mind, but after the news we heard yesterday (even with the positive cure rate... it's worse than expected and the treatments are going to ravage his body), i kinda let it all go and it hit me pretty hard. i dunno. maybe im just overreacting to things right now.
05-05-2010 , 09:15 PM
np. this is what teh intarwebz is for.

Take some time off of poker, and clear your head. You've been so busy worrying about your friend you haven't had time to worry about you.

Exercise, cook, or do whatever's therapeutic to you.

i mean it's not like ive been actively thinking about it all the time ro anything... just it was that + the stress of finals + the stress of finding a job + everything else boiled over on me so i went on monkey tilt lol

i overreacted a little, but finals time at law school pretty much puts everyone on ridiculous edge. people getting in arguments over little **** and everything... it's insane. there was almost a war in the library last week over a group whispering.

lol, but having worked part time in a law school throughout high school this doesn't surprise me. The whole concept of law school seems really interesting to me. So many of the professors are just so unique and quirky. Though reading your posts karak and lurking in and out of the law school thread has gave me a pretty big appreciation for how much work you guys gotta do

Drinks that bitches love that will make you seem creative and clever and get you brownie points.....

Blackjack shot = 80% Patron XO, 20% Baileys in a shot

Slow Comfortable Screw = Slow Gin, Southern Comfortable, Orange Juice. Tiny bit of cranberry juice optional

Vegas Bomb = Crown, Cramberry, Peach Schnapps, Red Bull. I prefer to get this one like a drink (in a pint glass) but w/e

Chameleon = pint glass 3/4 full ice. 4 count of vodka, peach schnaps, and blue curacao. Then you open a redbull can and put it upside down on that juice slab of ice. The drink starts out blue, turns green, and finishes off yellowish, hence the name.

I'm thoroughly hammered, SL. Go Dawgs. lolz i wrote cramberry. must be the kinda juice u drink this week. GET IT FINALS JOKE? SUCKAHHHHS STILL WITH FINALS.
