my dad gives me about $400/week. it ends up being spent $200 food and $200 on entertainment.

my parents still pays for all my stuff (im 21 atm).
so the cellphone, rent, car, are all not of my responsibility.

im afraid i only have another yr of freeloading left.... after undergrad, im on my own.

wtf do u spend 200 dollars on for food a week? Do you get a steak dinner at a fine dining restaurant 3x a week or something.

Dads a professor so free tuition.
Parents pay $300 for my rent and utilities. Also pay for cell phone and car insurance.

I spend a month:
$100-$125 a month on food.
$30 on gas
$50-60 on alcohol, parents pay for liquor.
$100-200 on misq/shopping
$25 on entertainment?

wait a min, am i actually getting flamed for spending $400/week?

it's so easy to spend $200 on food.. actually i find myself being short by saturday most times.. you go out and eat lunch and dinner almost everyday, **** adds up quick. You go out for sushi (which i do at least once a week), it's easily $25~$30.

on the other $200, dont you guys go out to the mall on the weekends or go somewhere fun?

i cant believe im gettting flamed for this.

edit:

im sure some of you guys will say, "why dont you cook then, its cheaper"
well, i just dont have time to cook.. i really dont.. i have too much school work.

no one "flamed" you

lol so you have enough time to go out to eat for lunch and dinner everyday, but not enough time to cook?

You're in undergrad correct? I find it hard to believe you have too much school work to find time to cook.

restaurants on campus and other eateries.

I usually have some kind of a sub for lunch ($8) and then have dinner at a dining hall or other off campus eateries ($10-$14). i do that for 5 days during the week and i try to go out for something good on the weekends.

Trust me, it's quite easy to spend $200 on food - even wehn you are eating subs for lunch.

-----------

TheGameAU,
why would i cook when I can pick up food and save time?
after classes and spending 3-4hrs a day in the library, i really dont have the energy to cook... im going to correct what i said earlier and say that it's not really an issue of time, but rather it's about having the energy to go out and get groceries and then stand for 20mins in the kitchen cooking.
09-28-2010 , 10:32 AM
bring book/workbook/other hw into kitchen
cook whilst homeworking
???
profit

i don't blame you for spending that much because i spend a lot too, but i cook at least a few times a week.

I was more or less just curious as to what you buy, not trying to flame... I really couldn't spend 200 bucks a week on food if i wanted to.

It's hard to spend 200 on food a week if you are nit.

I don't even think twice about the people writing they spend $200/week on food, because I probably spend somewhere close to that.

It's the people that spend $100 or so in a whole month that are blowing my mind. I have no idea how you get away with that

It's really easy to keep monthly food spending to somewhere under $200. The secret:

Spoiler:
don't eat out.

$535 Mortgage
$140 Strata / Water / Heating / Electricity
$120 Property Tax
$120 Car Insurance
$60 Phone
$60 Food
$40 Gas
$40 Internet
$30 Bathroom Stuff
______________________________________

Total: $1,145

I always have a lot of cash to spare and I've been making much larger payments on the mortgage than the min (it's a 450 square ft apt before it's asked)

Also there's the random thing that needs to get done to my car (brakes / oil change) every now and then.
