Congrats to the Wynn for posting their fees and takeout percentages in their ad. Funny, but the ones who do this seem to have the best value.

NO LIMIT HOLD'EM flight 1* $400/40
3% of all prize pools will be withheld as a service charge for poker staff.

That 3% comes out of the $400.
3% of 400 is 12. So, the actual amount of your $440 going into the prize pool is 400 - 12 = $388

The actual prize pool is $388.

However, the ad states that 3% of the prize pool is a fee or "service charge". The actual prize pool is $388 and 3% of that is $11.64. .. you get my drift..

What is the definition of "prize pool"?

look.. just state how much money goes into the pool and how much doesn't. We don't need to know who splits that rake, or how it is divided. Rake or fee or service charge or forced gratuity is all the same. It is the money we must pay to play.

It is $400 + $40 (fee) - 3% of the $400 (prize pool) which is another $12. So $12 + $40 = $52 out of the total buy in of $440 is taken by the casino in one form or another. This equates to a little over 11.8% of the total buy in taken by the casino with a little less than 88.2% of the total buy in going into the actual pool being distributed amongst those players who cash in the tournament.

Borrowing a similar post from a O/8 thread in case the Wynn rep posts in this thread: Are the PLO Triple Barrel tournaments 4000x3 chips (like the WSOP)? You can start with 4000, 8000 or all 12000 chips and leave behind 2, 1 and 0 barrels respectively?

The day before the WSOP PLO8 tournament perhaps wasn't the best day to schedule a 2 day tournament for that respective game. The day after (so bustouts can play a "second chance" tournament) may have been better...

They managed to do this for PLO
6/12 - WSOP $1500 PLO
6/13 - Wynn $550 PLO

Sadly, they didn't do that for PLO8...
6/16 - Wynn $550 PLO8 (Golden Nugget is running a $240 PLO8 on same day)
6/17 - WSOP $1500 PLO8

But, there's already a conflict with Caesar's on 6/18 (they're hosting a PLO8).
Thursday (ideally) only has the Main Event Satellite...why not place PLO8 then so there's no conflict?

Sigh...I think the Wynn may not get a lot of PLO8 people (and it was an MTT I was looking forward to )

I have zero difficulty finding this information for any tournament that I choose to play in. And my response in this thread wasn't to say the Wynn's rake was high or hidden or anything else, it was simply an outlined response to an earlier post by another member who was trying to determine the accurate numbers.

Its actually far lower than the venues who choose not to list the information in their ads.

I doubt you could have missed my point but let me reiterate it to be more clear. I know what the numbers are.

They want us to begin with the assumption that the pool is $400.
They say 3% will be taken out of that prize pool.

However, any money they take from your buyin is never a part of a prize pool.

If they are forcibly taking an extra $12 of your $440, I don't care what the excuse is, it reduces the pool. The pool is not $400, it is only $388.

So it is deceptive to say $400 of what you pay is in the pool. In reality, less dollars go into the pool.

Their mistake is to claim 3% will be removed from "the pool". Maybe the attorneys say they must word it that way... I don't know nor do I care.
It is simply not truthful.

I like the rake amount.. it's very decent. This isn't about that.

Some of the other venues you like to criticize over this small, practically irrelevant issue, have a lot more going for them than the Wynn does at this point in their history. That may not always be true, but it is right now. If I were an up and coming series trying to lay my claim to the WSOP-period traffic, I would lower my prices even more.

I don't know about others, but I don't think paying a little less in rake and having much smaller fields would be considered having the best value. To each his own, I suppose.

How are the Wynn fields, especially compared to Venetian/Palazzo? I know they are smaller, but how about the softness? Wynn is definitely the most aesthetically pleasing casino to me, hope to spend more time there.

I've played several tournaments at the V, including 3 deepstacks, and several tournaments at the Wynn including one or two in their series last year (definitely a 1k, maybe a cheaper one, can't remember). I believe the better players head towards the V since the fields are larger. The Wynn, to me, seems to get more Europeans who love to gamble. With that in mind, I'm playing at least 1 tournament at the Wynn. Give me the softer field every time even if the prizepool is less.
Also, I wouldn't be surprised if they don't hit their guarantee amount, therefore a possible overlay. I could see a lot of people walking up the strip looking to play the Wynn/Encore, walking through the V/Palazzo, and saying F it, I'm staying here. Hope I'm wrong. Love the Wynn.

Thanks for the response sir. I have heard similar things regarding field sizes and softness. I don't mind a smaller field to be honest since less rungood is required. (of course the ROI is smaller) Overlay seems like it'd be close. 500 over 3 days for the 550 and 250 over 2 days for the 440 seems pretty doable. I wouldn't mind the people staying at Venetian the day I want to play a tournament at Wynn.

Have the tournaments historically been at the Encore? Would that make the fields smaller and tougher i.e. Venetian/Palazzo?

What's are your comp deals? They were great last year, and got me to play 2 events there I would have otherwise played at the V.

Will the PLO8 definitely be a 2 day event ? played it last year and I don't want to ditch it but likely will if I might miss the wsop event the following day. Do u play a certain number of levels or finish at a set time ? What time does day2 of this start ?

Im guessing its too late for u to consider swapping it with the PLO event or moving it elsewhere ?

When scheduling mixed events try to make yours end the day before the wsop one. That way there are no conflucts, and the event acts as a warmup to the bigger one.

Mixed games have become very popular. Players are tired of all nolimit tournament schedules.
