Should make it easier to win a ring since the fields will probably be small. I know several players that canceled their rooms and now the casino wants 30% more for the same room so they ain't going.

The idea of it being easier to win a ring may actually draw the crowd back. It drew me back.

Downside though is lower prize pools for the people who don't win it all.

Some of the casinos I've played in have masseuses walking around that offer table-side massage while playing, usually between $1-$2 per minute. Does Pot do that (have they done it during the MSP events in the past)?

Based on MSPT turnouts there's still a lot of Wisconsin poker players. So I wouldn't worry too much about the people that cancelled and didn't re schedule.

Yes they have $1.50/min massages.

Thanks for info on the massage... sometimes I just need it to relax and focus a little.

How is the Wisc player base who typically play in these things?

A core base of 200 players that you'll always see play the $65-$100 local bar tournaments (95% dead money). Then 100-200 Poto cash game regulars. Then however many people that travel in.

Since $2-5 NLHE is the highest game you won't find any $5-10 or $10-20 super stars in these things. I'd say the really good $2-5 guys have a track record of doing well in the tournaments of the past though.

Amazing, checking on website using WSOP room rate code, I got the same rates as before quoted...

After cancelling I did get the same rate using the WSOP code. I did lose out on a little after cancelling my flight then re-purchasing it on the refunded miles.

Curious to see how much damage was done but hoping for some good-sized fields still. Surely a number of people canceled travel plans which will hurt numbers some. Guessing most of opening weekend is locals though.

You take what you can get when dealing with incompetence. If this is the best Poker Room management can do, it's still better than no tourney at all.

Typically, the low to mid-range tournaments ($100 - $400) play harder than the equivalent in Vegas. So do the low level cash games (1/3 and 2/5). Don't think you're going to come to Milwaukee and find a bunch of pushovers.

Has anyone heard of when registration will open? The poker room seems to think you could be there at 10 to register for the 11:00 entry...Every other event I have played you could register 24 hours in advance. I don't think they understand the volume of players this will attract- cancelation and all...

How is the set up? Hopefully it's improved from past tournaments where it's been pretty slow and cumbersome with everyone having to fill out multiple paper forms.

Also, are they requiring a players card to sign up?

You will always have paper forms to fill out whenever photography or video is involved, so I would expect it here. Players card is pretty standard for tournament entry no matter where you go, so not sure why this would be any different.

Yes, yes and yes
Set up is a little tight, playing 10 handed at 9 handed tables, lots of loose action. Cash games were the loosest I have seen in some time. After things got settled in a bit, it wasn't too bad... the satellite was just a shove fest though, 10 min blinds at 3000 chips...

I played cash this AM and took out 2 buy ins in like 4 hours. Pretty lively compared to a normal Thursday morning before noon.

I came expecting a disaster in the tournament area...I was pleasantly surprised how well everything was handled today.

Should get 8-900 runners across all 4 starting flights for event 1.

For anyone who is there, how is the temp running in the tournament room? Do they keep it cool in there or does it warm up pretty quick once there's bodies in the seats?

I would say it's anything but cool. It's been pretty much below 35F outside so they have the entire casino decently heated.

I played in there yesterday morning and did take my winter jacket off after 30 minutes. But I drink green tea and it raises my core body temperature so it may have been why I felt like taking it off.

I'd say just keep a hoodie in your hotel room or car in case you need it but in general you shouldn't.

Weekends skew things higher. But 70-160 so far.

I only played cash games in the poker room this weekend but they kept announcing stuff like, "They have an opening for a 1 table $135 Sit N Go, winner take all $1100 (or whatever it was) in Woodland dreams ballroom, table 32". They announced a few different ones Saturday. So if STT are your thing it seems like those are running also.
