WSOP Returns to Canada: April 20 - May 2016 WSOP Returns to Canada: April 20 - May 2016

11-20-2015 , 04:28 PM
On the final day of the WSOP ME, it was announced that the WSOP is finally returning to Canada. After having two WSOP Circuit stops in BC and Quebec in 2013, the WSOP abandoned Canada but will be returning at Montreal Casino. Ten tournaments will be played on April 20 - May 1, 2016.

Canadians who make the highly -EV blunder of travelling to the US to buy into tournaments with 30% tax plus 35% exchange premium, can instead take up to 10-12 shots at a WSOP championship at home with no withholding taxes. The WPT Canadian Spring Championship will start around the same time until May 5, 2016 at Playground Poker Club. Note that the government-owned Montreal Casino uses French-language cards with King-Queen-Jack as R-D-V (Roi-Dame-Valet).

Imperative that we start a petition eliminating the use of French cards for the WSOPC events; they are beyond tilting

Wasn't Montreal Casino supposed to host another large poker last year but it got cancelled? Lots of "politics" in Montreal... It will not be nearly as good of an experience to players who are used to playing at Playground but glad that WSOP is back in Canada! I might make the drive since I wasn't able to attend the WPT Fall Classic this month.

Is that based on the fact that in poker we play with a French Deck (Spades, Clubs, Hearts, Diamonds) and have chosen to translate the Court cards into English........

LOL, you will have to challenge Quebec's French language police at the Supreme Court of Canada!

Are the Quebec French decks sold at their casinos or elsewhere so we can practice getting used to RDV?

You have indeed Paris in Texas.
More seriously, I think the French invented the playing cards used for poker, but the game itself was probably created in the US.
Anyway poker is very much an English-speaking game, which is very helpful for English-speakers when it comes to play around the world. You can speak your own language anywhere. It's not the case for others.
I understand playing with different cards can be confusing for a while but please consider the advantage you have, as an English-speaker, all year on the circuit...

Curious. What is the language at the tables? French? English? I am guessing English for a WSOP event but . . . not positive.

If I bring a bunch of US dollars I'm assuming I will need to change to Canadian to play tourneys and cash games. Does casino montreal give a good rate for that, or does anyone have experience with that?

On the WSOP website it says that a bunch of the tournaments are 2-day events but when I called to register for the Monster Stack they were adamant that the only 2-day event is the main. Just a mistake on the website then?

They may have meant that only the Main Event has more than one Day 1. I hope that 300-player WSOP events will have better structures than to all finish in one day.

Has anybody here played a super satellite at Casino Montreal? My friend and I will be arriving on April 19, and have one bedroom available in the house for somebody we know.

Congratulations to Mike "goleafsgoeh" Leah for winning the WSOP Montreal two-day Event 2. While I was in the running for the WSOP Tbilisi Casino Points Championship and cashed in the final 15 of Event 1, I have little chance now so I will skip tomorrow's $1,125 event.

Have we got confirmation on tomorrow being a 2-day event or not?

Yes, all of the WSOP Montreal events have been two days. Jonathan Duhamel and I have made the final table of Event 7. Day 2 will resume on Wednesday at 2 pm. There may be some coverage in Casino Montreal's Facebook and Twitter.
