WSOP - Marathon or Monster Stack? WSOP - Marathon or Monster Stack?

Going to plan a trip around one or the other, interested in your take on these - can't decide which one will set me up better for a profit (I am profitable in deeper/slower tournaments - both of these fit that criteria). More chips / time on the clock and less opponents, or slightly less chips/time but bigger, softer field. Anything else you can think of from your past experience playing or observing would be helpful.

Thx...

Monster Stack. About as deep and slow as you want without having to waste three days to min cash as in the Marathon.

I showed up in time for the beginning of the Monster Stack the one time that I played it and my table started off 5 handed for the first level and a half leading to high variance play that didn't work out for me. Already by level 3 I was looking for reshove spots and when I found one, I happened to be up against aces and I was out. So it was not quite the deep and slow event I was expecting after all. Maybe late reg to the marathon is the ticket for you. These days I stick to selected mixed games and Senior Events (where the players actually show up on time.)

I didn't play the Marathon last year (just too slow for me), but have played the MS each year it has been held. IMO, it's the best NLH tourney at the WSOP (outside the ME, of course), and is rapidly becoming one of the only ones I want to play.

I actually think its a tad too slow on day 1 since it typically takes ~4-5 hours to reach the money on day 2. An ideal structure would be something like 50 min levels on day 1 with a 20K starting stack. But that's just my preference. In any case, my choice would definitely be the MS.

The Marathon is a really deep tourney, and if I only had the wherewithal or time to play one event, that would likely be a good value. But playing 3 days before the money is reached (and likely playing against stiffer competition) is just not my idea of a great time.
