I'm thinking next year, we go for late September/early October on the schedule.
Late November or late December we can dress for the cold, used to it since some rooms are like meat lockers. I know several players that have said that they won't come back to pay $600-700 in vig and have to play in a pizza oven. Or better yet since Louisiana is know for crooked politicians bribe the Governor so you can use the river dome. Dam you need Huey Long back in office and then it would be a lock to get approved.

I know I left on Sunday but Thur-Sat, it was FREEZING in the tent. Everyone at the cash games all weekend was talking about how cold it was up there, but they would rather be cold than hot.

Too bad it's gotten so hot again, but this year's East Tx/West La weather has been all over the place. Record heat, record drought, then a sudden cool down to 50's at night...now back to record heat. You can't predict this kind of bizarre weather. Heck before the week is out, they might need heaters up there!lol

Speaking to the River Dome, that would be awesome for the tourneys but it would suck that there would be no overflow for the cash games, since the state would never let them play cash out there. None of these gaming laws make sense, but what can I say, I'm from Texas, the land of MUCH more bizarre gaming laws. I'm just glad I live right across the border.lol

Play was actually worse at el dorado from what I saw. But the only session I logged was on a Saturday night and we all know how that is usually the best night at any casino

Poker is legal in Texas it is the VIG part that is illegal.

+1

Just wanted to add that although the El Dorado was running 9 tables last Saturday, the only game available was 1-2 NL.

The Horseshoe made room for cash games in the tent last weekend. I'm sure that they'll do the same this weekend as well. One caveat: your play will not be tracked if you are playing any cash games on the roof. If you value your $1 per hour in comps, then find a seat in the regular poker room.

Very true. I run a weekly game at my house among friends. My point was that our legislature spent months trying to figure out ways to cut money (which is always good) but they sit idly by as they watch the Texas license plates leave the state going to OK and LA to spend not only their gambling dollars but their entertainment dollars too. I haven't spent a night in a Texas hotel in probably 8-10 years, but my wife and have I have spent untold nights and dollars in LA and MS on poker trips. It's just crazy.

Speaking of which, I'm loading up at lunch tomorrow with my wife and our 2 year old (first overnight family trip for her) and heading to Bossier for 2 more nights. They are going to shop, visit her family and goof off while I play some more poker.

Between the Baptist, the OK Indian tribes and the casino interest in Louisiana giving money to stop gambling in Texas it will probably be a cold day in hell before Texas sees gambling plus Texas dosn't want to kill their lottery money as it would go away with casinos going in. OK and Louisiana interest don't want to lose their cash cows that would dry up if Texas put casinos in. Their Louisiana casinos are paid for and to build in Texas would cost hundreds of millions and Caesar's, Boyd and the others don't have it. Hell they can't even get the money to finish projects in Vegas.

Fair points BigTex, but I think the number of Baptists who'd be against might be smaller than 10-20 years ago. I'm a Baptist in church every Sunday and I go to the same church with all my poker buddies. It's no secret either. I think views on gambling by much of the "religious right" have softened over the years. A trip to Shreveport and NOT running into a fellow church member is usually a surprise. And these are closet gamblers either. Just sayin... But don't get me wrong, there would be alot against it but if you took it to a vote by the people...it would win hands down.

But as you said, it ain't gonna happen. Too many interests/money keeping it from happening. Also it wouldn't do me any good because I don't live close to any big cities and I'm closer to Shreveport than any town in Tx that would ever have legalized gambling. So for me it's a moot point I guess. But in general, I agree....it ain't happening.

As far as the Baptist vote remember for years they have been voting an area dry and then drive down the road to a wet area liquor store.

state legislators should be removed from office if they take out of state money to advance causes adverse to the best interests of the citizens of their state.

The Shoe and the Strike are the busiest no problem finding games at either and that is easy since they next door to each other. Harrahs is also busy but
Samstown and the Hollywood are dead during the week with Hollywood dead even on weekends. But all except the Hollywood will be busy that weekend. If you go to the Shoe tell Lisa I sent you because it is the number one room in town and she will take good care of you.

Well, one of the players I mentioned in my post about Bossier just took a ring in the $555! Congrats to Mark "The Milkman" Burford!

Hope everyone is having a good time in Bossier. I'll see you tomorrow night at the $300 mega, the Main Event, and the last $300 event on Sunday.

What were they thinking scheduling a 1k buyin 2day event where day 2 overlaps w one, if not both of the main event starting times? Move the 1k to the opening weekend and put some megas and one day events before the main. Not a big fan of this whole 12 rings in 12 days things, but I guess the extra days at home might change my mind.

My view point on 12 in 12 is that it needs tweaking and Jimmy already has my suggestions and Jack will get them also.

I was in town Thursday-Sunday and only played one tourney and spent every other waking our in the main poker room. I'll be back on Thursday to spend a couple more nights and play cash games.

For those of us familiar with the room and the normal action, everyone will attest the room hasn't seen this much nonstop action in...well since I've been playing. Heard an old reg ask another old reg...."How long before you think we will see this room this packed for this long?" He replied, "Next year's WSOP."lol

The cash games have been great. Everything from $4/8 up to the $25/50 PLO/NLHE game, have all looked really juicy. I played a little $4/8, some $1/3NL and several long sessions of $5/10 O8. One day we ran it all day with a full kill which made the game alot of fun. Every day I was there I saw a big selection of games for just the 14 tables in the main room. $4/8, $20/40, $1/3, $2/5, $5/10, $2/5 PLO, $2/5 PLO8, $5/10 PLO, $25/$50 PLO/NLHE and a few other games mixed in at times. Tons of tourists with WSOP gear they just walked out of the gift shop with and it seemed like I couldn't walk across the casino floor without hearing someone talking about poker or telling a bad beat story.

From what I've seen, my one tournament and my cash game hours played, this event has been pulled off beautifully. Richard and the gang have done a super job. Hats off to them. I've seen a few issues that could be addressed but I don't see any reason in vetting them here. Plus everything has been overwhelming good and the turnout is even bigger than I expected.
+1
