i'm going to play tournies from sept 8-14. i'd like to stay at the horseshoe but it's expensive. wanna split a room for that time? i'd rather not deal with cabs and i probably won't be in the room too often. check me out/email me at Rabidsmurf@facebook.com to be less sketched out or Nicholas Gorman to look me up on cardplayer or wherever.

thanks,
nick

What do you guys think of the $345 re-entry on that Friday and Saturday the first weekend? Well I guess I'll tell you my thoughts!

Doesn't it seem silly to have to play that Friday with 1500 entrants, play down to 200-300 people, and not know if you're going to make the money when you come in on day 2 (Sunday). Than on Saturday there will be another 1500 players for the re-entry and they will play down to 200-300 people and who knows whether or not they're in the money. So everyone comes back for day 2 on Sunday and there's 400-600 people and all of a sudden you're there playing and you bubble or min. cash! You either just wasted 2-3 days on a $345 buy-in to not cash or make like $300 bucks!

I could understand for a ME $1600 buy-in that one would consider doing a re-entry, but doesn't it seem silly to do for such a small buy-in tournament like $345? Considering all the days/hours/time that one would put in to not cash or even just min. cash just seems like a waste of time.

Your thoughts?

The numbers I have come up with are based on my scientific, well studied projections for Hammond. I have no clue what Bossier City events will bring in number wise.

Bossier City will probably have 550 each day so a total of 1100 players not many tourneys pay $330,000 for a $345 entry. I'll play it any day and if I bust out that is the breaks of the game but if I win it is a damn good profit for a $345 investment.

I'm not trying to min. cash. barely cashing doesn't factor into my decision. I wanna play for a bir prize pool compared to my investment so when I go deep I can make some money.

Question for Texmo, Stein, longhorn or any other person: does anyone have a guess on tourney numbers since the "river" is over just a few days before this starts?

It's a difficult calculation Bob. Shreveport is 2.5/3 hours from the Dallas market...the River will have just ended on that Monday...this is a WSOP event...it's being conducted on the roof of the boat...no early/online registration available...it may only get New Orleans type numbers. It would be awesome if it drew Choctaw type numbers...

Hopefully the River event doesn't hurt this stop too much since most River participants get in via the mega and don't take $2100 from their bankroll. There to my knowledge has been zero advertising in the Dallas market for this stop. I have not seen a billboard nor any TV or radio ad. For the Choctaw event there were billboards up and down the roadways...if there are billboards up for this event note to marketing...Dallas resident, not anywhere he has looked.

They claim they have been running radio ads and will start TV ads this week.

I've been working in Florida the last month so I haven't been listening to radio much. I will have to keep an eye out for the TV spots.

New stop with no easy way to get to it will have more of an impact on the field than any other factor in my opinion.

This is a tough one BigTex. This stop is sandwiched right in between the River and TJ challenge and there are only so many bankroll dollars in the area to go around. It is the kick off stop, so it does have that going for it, but I would err on the side of conservative if I had to make a guess. I would expect numbers to fall right in between what Chester and New Orleans had, but nowhere close to Choctaw or Hammond.

No place is gonna get close to Hammond numbers (Hammond makes even Winstar look cheap since they add so much money to all their events) but I was hoping for numbers between Tunica and Choctaw. But no matter I don't have anything better to do and rooms are booked so I'm going, after all I have to start chasing points sometime so might as well make it the first event. Not sure if I'm going to TJ challenge or So. Indiana so come and get my "dead money" at Bossier City.

Hammond is the best. Worst area of all stops, but best tournies and best tourney venue, hands down. I am going to make sure that I make that stop. Believe me Bob, I don't want to draw your table, not until we meet at the final one. I'll see you at the main in Bossier!

Unless my memory is bad it was 1 hour for all noon events except main event and that was 2 hours and I have not heard of a change.

I would love to play, but it is just too hard to play there. As Stein said, it's more than a 3 hour drive for me (which kills me being in the car that long). Also, the hotel room situation there is always a pain (i.e. not enough) even before the WSOP-C is there.

I personally don't think you will get numbers like Choctaw.... because the distance to drive there from 2/3 of the DFW area is just too far for most of the recreational players.

And, I had not heard anything about this either. I'm not sure where these TV and radio ads are playing, but I haven't heard them. I only learned about this because someone at The River series mentioned it at my table today. Out of the 10 of us there, only the person who mentioned it seemed interestedin driving out there.

Hopefully, I'll be wrong though and you guys will get a nice juicy pool. But if *I* am going to travel 3+ hours for a tourney, I'll do it by hopping on a plane instead. lol

And per an earlier post, yes, the Horseshoe has/had valet. It's been 2 years since the one and only time that I made that drive, but back then it was easy to do... and I seem to recall the cost was only the cost of a tip to the valet.

Good luck out there.

Sorry your not going to make it, it is just a 6 hour drive for me which is short some circuits are 12 hour drives and being wheelchair bound I don't fly hardly anywhere but Vegas as that is about the only city with handicap cabs and renting a wheelchair lift van is over $230 a day. I usually stay at extended stay hotels to lower expenses as 12-13 days in casino hotels gets expensive.

I talked to the casino about lack of advertising in the DFW area and they didn't seemed concerned but said TV ads are due to run there this week. They didn't seem to understand that people can't come if they don't know about it. But then most casino marketing people are idiots.

Glad they are doing 2 starting days on some events as that maybe the only days with good fields otherwise they may only see 250-350 per event. I was hoping for numbers between Tunica and Choctaw but realistically I now expect Biloxi or New Orleans numbers.

JennD thanks for posting.

I can certainly image the challenge of traveling with a wheelchair. In fact, I imagine that this is something that I will have to deal with in the next 10-15 years, if not sooner (I'm only 38 now). I just learned that I have moderate arthritis in both knees already and the left one is missing an entire chunk of cartilage. I'm going to have to start wearing special braces for all walking to help things. So, between my back problems and now knee problems, I completely envision I could end up in a wheelchair before my days on this planet end. So, reading about your experiences and how you deal with them has definitely been useful (and inspiring).

Good luck in Shreveport... hope to see you in Durant for the WSOP-C in Jan.

Traveling can be challenging even locally the other night at my home casino Horseshoe Tunica after 8 hours at a 2/5 game I started to leave and couldn't the chair wouldn't move. After a couple of friends got thru looking for something wrong they found the cable from the batteries disconnected while the floor who I've know for years was laughing his a@@ off. Seems he thought it funny to disconnect it. Planning on playing Choctaw so be sure to say hi as I'm not hard to spot speeding around.

I've heard one radio spot and it was late at night (8pm ~ish). It was really bad too--spent the whole time talking about "you want to be a poker player?, push all in, etc." Then at the very end it said the event. Really cheesy and it spent too much time on crap rather than the message. If you weren't listening the last few seconds you wouldn't have a clue what it was talking about.

A VP in our organization - essentially, my boss's boss - asked me if I was going to Bossier City for the big tournament this morning. She's 100% removed from poker other than what she happens to see on the news or around in public, and she mentioned she saw it on the news and knew that it was a WSOP-Sanctioned event. So apparently the word is starting to get out around the area. I told her that I wished they'd started talking about it sooner to get a bigger turnout, but I think it will still be good.

Hopefully we get some more exposure. I know I talk about it every time I go to Winstar because I think it will be THAT good (AND I want some of the fish from up there to go! hahaha...)
