Always looking forward to the Nola stop, the last circuit event before the series. I'll be there mid next week, planning to play the 6-max, monster stack, and hopefully the main event as well. I've never played in a circuit main before, how do the fields compare to the standard $365 events?

I'm a local who finally might take a few days from work to play a couple events.
Maybe the 365 on the 11th, and see how we go from there.

Will be there for first weekend. Unbelievable WSOP cheap rates for weekend at the Hilton next door if they are not sold out. Surprised to find rooms walking distance from Harrah’s for $141 on Friday and saturday night. Up for dinner if I am not playing and always up for cafe Dumond for beignets in the morning. Let me know if anyup for meet.

Hotels.com still has several nearby hotels with rooms for $120/night. I booked a month ago for 98/night.

I'm a big foodie and I've had a couple people ask. Here are my favorite NOLA restaurants.
High End: GW Fins, August
Mid Priced: Cochon Butcher, Orleans Grapevine
Budget: Acme, Coops
Breakfast: Fleur de Lys, 2 Chicks

Most overrated place in New Orleans imo. cant believe people wait in line for like an hour there.

To each their own, but it is a must-hit for me every time I'm in NOLA. "Waiting in line" consists of watching the world go by while you sip a cocktail or three, fine by me.

I would love to go out and try new things/places but I play every tournament entry that I can, even the late nite sit-n-go's, so I spend most of my time at the buffet, McAlister's, Fuddrocker's, or the Lucky Dog.

A couple of times when I busted out early I have gone to Mannings. . . good selection of beers and food.

Gordon Biersch was so-so. I prob will not go eat/drink there again.

While those are serviceable during the day while playing, you are doing yourself a tremendous disservice not to get out and find the far-better restaurants that are easily within walking distance.

A regular for me has actually been French Market Restaurant on Decatur, a few blocks beyond Jackson Square. They've gone up a few bucks through the years, but they still tend to take care of me fairly well...occasionally I get lazy and take a cab over there but then walk the food and drink off as I get back to my hotel (the W used to be where I would stay, but I know they re-flagged).

Chargrilled oysters at Dragos are phenomenal and a very easy walk from the casino as well

A lot of pros fly in and play just the main at the various circuit events and other non-WSOP tour stops. They tend to show up a bit late and over bet pots early to try and get a stack going. Sometimes the pros play particularly wild against each other knowing that this allows one of them to double up easily while the other is just going to rebuy anyway. You have been warned! The non-main events are more standard fair with the skill levels encountered ranging from not so good to pretty awesome.

I will be playing the Senior's Event on the first Sunday as well as the PLO ring event on Monday. When not in a tournament you can find me at the limit Omaha or non-nosebleed PLO cash tables through Tuesday. I have a ton of stories and enjoy any kind of cuisine.

Looks like 172.5 to qualify for GCC. I expect pretty much everybody on the leaderboard from 35-90 to be there. Tough fields.

Not having driven to NOLA in many, many years, will a tourney entry get a validation for the parking fees? Last minute airfare blows, as does the flight selection for returning to the office on Monday...

Ring event means the winner gets a WSOP circuit ring. Unless something has changed they have 12 ring events per circuit stop.

Make sure you park in the Harrah's garage. In past years there was some grief where you had to pull vehicle out and back in every couple days to get a new ticket. Last year it was super easy. Just go to the desk where they do entries or the cash room and they will validate the parking slip in a snap. Have your tournament entry receipt but they never asked for mine. The lady validating said I did not need to do it once per day anymore but I did it anyway. If I find out that has changed will update.

Run good!

Thnx

I won't make a decision until late tonight or early tomorrow AM. Between a death in the family last night (not unexpected, she was 98 and under hospice care) plus the travels to Vegas beginning in a few weeks, I'm just on the fence about the Circuit event...

The trip would be weekend to play the women's event (tomorrow) and seniors (Sunday) and then back into the office on Monday as I try to get as much crap done as possible across the next few weeks. Turnout on women's event has been poor the past few years even with the entry fee being low ($250). Not sure what the impact of Mother's Day will be on turnout for the two events...

I just looked at the updates from the first tournament (WSOP website) and the pictures do not seem to be from the same regular ballroom where the games used to be played.

Lots of lights (maybe a blurry slot machine in the background) behind the players.

They they remodel the ballroom? The tournaments moved to another part of the casino ?

Just curious.

I live here but won't be playing any events, mostly due to work.

If anyone has any questions about food, the surrounding areas etc feel free.

PS, don't walk around the French quarter at night by yourself, especially if you're drunk!
Armed robberies are the crime of choice here, and they're mostly committed by juveniles...

I heard the showroom is booked for a show for the first few days so the tourney will be on the casino floor for a few days.

If you play cash you need a total rewards card and be swiped in for 30+ minutes, then on your way out stop by a kiosk and it will print you a slip for free parking. For tournaments when you register they should validate your parking somehow although I am not exactly sure how it works if you register days in advance, I'd just ask a floor person.

Some specific details on the order of operations for using the automated parking machines at the garage exit: insert your parking ticket that you got when you entered into the machine, then scan your validated parking ticket via the scanner down below (you'll see a red beam sensor)

That should work but they have been very problematic
