WSOP-C Playground, August 23rd to September 3rd

The news is out and now the full schedule is too - the WSOP-C is coming back to Canada for the first time in 2 years. It's coming to Playground Poker Club from August 23rd to September 3rd, and there are a total of $4,000,000 in guaranteed prize pools ($2,000,000 for the Main Event).

Here's a link to the full schedule: https://www.playgroundpoker.ca/wsopc...ournament-2018

You'll also see on that page there are several promotions and ways to satellite in online on partypoker or live here at Playground.

We can't wait to welcome everyone back to Playground Poker Club and to award our first WSOP-C Rings!

Structure sheets coming soon...

Structure sheets for all events are now up. Just click on the Event name on the WSOP-C Playground page (i.e., https://www.playgroundpoker.ca/wsopc...ournament-2018) to view a PDF that you can download and print or just keep saved on your phone.

You should visit the Event Page for the WSOP-C - the info is all there: https://www.playgroundpoker.ca/wsopc-travel-info-2018

All online elements are on partypoker (the international site). You can play PP LIVE Dollars sats and use them to buy in, there will be a dedicated WSOP-C Main Event Satellite tree very soon, and there will be online flights for both the Colossus and the Main Event.

For players' that have played here before: Do you have hotel recommendations?

And if staying in downtown Montreal, what is the best/cheapest way to get to Playground? I thought I heard something that a train stops right by there?

Thanks

Main Event question: if take multiple stacks through to Day 2 are they all in play for the start of level 11 or do you play 1 stack and then if you bust that get reassigned a different seat with another stack?

If you have multiple Day 1 stacks going in to Day 2, you will play the largest of the two to start with, and if you bust, the second stack will be reserved and you could re-enter with that. So, pretty much the same as in your option 2.

From the official rules: "If a player has qualified for Day 2 with multiple Day 1 stacks, these stacks may be used to enter or re-enter Day 2. When level 13 begins, unused qualified stacks will be forfeited."

I would reconsider before doing this again going forward. Seems like a huge incentive to dump chips if you get to a table with a potential confederate.

Example. I bag stacks of 100K and 50K, so I'm playing my 100K stack. If it gets down to near 50K or below, and there is time to utilize this reentry function, at a minimum I can play crazy to bust (and get my other 50K stack), or double back up to a higher number. Now, if I have a "friend" at the table, I can intentionally dump my stack to that person, knowing that I still have the 50K backup stack. This way, I preserve the full value of the stack I dumped off (because my friend has it) as opposed to putting it all-in in a bad spot hoping to get lucky.

Just a thought from somebody who hasn't played this format. Hope it all works out well.

Cheers, Greg Raymer (FossilMan)

Hey Greg - thanks for taking the time to share your observations. Obviously what you say deserves to be taken seriously. Our experience, though, has been amazingly positive to date. We've run events with a similar format several times in the past 18 months, and many other events using structure have also been run in properties around the world over the same time-frame (Dusk Till Dawn, Kings, Barcelona, etc). Our experience has been that while there may seem to be a theoretical risk of such shenanigans, in practice there has been nothing to be concerned about.

Our tournament floors and dealers are all exceptionally well trained and attentive for possible issues, and as far as I know there has been no hint of unacceptable play. Part of the reason why there haven't been problems may be due to the sheer size of these tournaments - random seating with 800+ players on Day 2 really limits the opportunity for anyone to try anything untoward.

I really hope we'll see you at an event at Playground sometime!

Appreciate your thoughtful response, and glad you've not had any issues to date.

I'm anti-best stack forward in general. Actually, if you want to allow people who have bagged to reenter a later day 1, I think that's fine. In order to ensure that no shenanigans are being motivated by the structure, it actually works better if they are simply allowed to combine all their bags at the start of day 2. Now each of their chips is just as valuable to them, as each chip is to every other player in the field at that time. No motivation to dump to a friend, as the two of them don't gain any equity in doing so.

Even if the player is never going to cheat, if they already have a bag, they can be correctly motivated to make some strange plays as the end of day 1 approaches. If I have 50K in the bag from day 1a, and my stack is <50K as the end of day 1b approaches, there is no reason for me to play sensibly, as finishing with 40K is the same as finishing with 0 in most best stack forward events. So now I shove dark, or make some other -EV play, because it isn't -EV to me, since I bagged that previous stack. Your system takes away most of this motivation at the end of these later day 1s, but moves that motivation to near the end of expiration period on day 2 (i.e., the time when the unused smaller stacks get voided out).

But I agree with you that in practice, it apparently hasn't been much of a problem, even in locations with smaller fields than yours. And that's great. But it might be even better if just removed the easy motivation/temptation completely.

I hope to make it up there sooner rather than later. Let's talk about booking one of my seminars for your next series. ;-)

Thanks, Greg Raymer (FossilMan)

Will the main event day 1 flights be capped? Do you anticipate any difficulties registering for day 1d the morning of without risking being an alternate?

Thanks

Obv I am not a rep, but I think itís super unlikely.

They expanded and have the big pavilion area out back with a lot more tables. I donít see there being any issues

Re: WSOP-C Playground, August 23rd to September 3rd

Thinking of making my first trek there for this event. My motivation is as much to get back to Montreal as it is play some trnies. I didn't realize before that the Playground is a decent way's away from the city center. It also seems from a cursory look that there aren't a ton of hotels either close to the Playground or evenly between it and the city center. I'm considering taking a train up there, but it seems that without a car, it would be hard to go back and forth between the city and The Playground. Am I accurate in these initial impressions?

Thereís literally hotels 15 min away max from playground ...
And the city of Montreal obv itís like a 20 min hike (assuming there is no construction ) (thereís always construction)

Le chabrol is where I stayed last time I visited. Super cheap and rooms newly renovated.
