They 'can' do it in May, but at a massively reduced level and massively reduced profitability, or wait until the fall when they can probably operate at just about -10%. Non-US are still banned from entering the country and that won't change before Summer. Covid levels are still at record highs both in the US, Europe and much of the rest of the poker playing world, and the impact of vaccination won't be felt until at least the summer.
So they can do it in May with a fraction of the events/runners and make a small profit or even a loss or they can wait until Fall and run it semi normally. It's a fairly straightforward business decision.
