I'm aware of that. That's why Colossus is a hit. My point is those people who can't afford $1k+ buyin work for a living and can't afford to take off work to go back to Vegas a month later if they happen to make Day 2. So why even bother playing Day 1 when they can just do Colossus all in one trip for only a couple hundred more?

Plenty of people that can't afford $1,500+ buyins but can fire away a couple of $365s and decide to come back if they make day 2. Guaranteed.

Alright, what's your guess on the number of unique entries into The Giant?

Lol are you joking? Average circuit $365 reentry gets over 1000 entries, Chocktaw just got over 5,000 people. Easily will get 10,000 people not sure if unique or not but ya. Probably $333,000 for first.

choctaw is a unique in that it breaks its own attendance record every year. Circuit reentries are done over just one weekend.

Re: WSOP- 2017 ?

I'm guessing 5,000 unique entries, max. For an event they label as The Giant, that will be a huge disappointment for them. In fact, I'm guessing the event will siphon some from Colossus and Colossus will end up with even fewer entrants than last year.

Re: WSOP- 2017 ?

You guys are missing the point on the Giant, the last flight might get 9000 entries, those people will not have to wait, the other flight might only be like 5-6k people combined.

I'm thinking one of the best/cheapest places to stay that is around the rio for the wsop is the gold Coast?

This causes about a 1.5 level disparity in play between starting flights, which is certainly a potential source of consternation for purists (myself included). However it makes sense and allows players to know exactly what their upside is on day 1, which I think is important for a tourney which places such heavy emphasis on day 1 payout upside due to its scheduling irregularities.
The day 1 payouts for the GIANT will be the same as the $365 Deepstack event. You can find them in advance by just plugging in a field size up to 3,000 players from the link below. Then on day 2, the min cash will be a tad higher than the largest final cash of any flight on day 1.

Thanks for calculator link, never knew about that.

15% payout scale on smaller buyins just seems so pointless. 15% on main event is great for all the people who satellite in and don't normally play those stakes, where just cashing is a big deal.

Just cashing in a 3 figure buyin isn't a big deal to anyone who can afford to travel to vegas and play. Should be 10-12% for 3 figure events for sure, and actually would be best for all events $1500 BI and less. Actually best of all would probably be 10-12% for everything across the board except main.

Not that this hasn't been discussed before.....

I think some of you ae waaaay overestimating this event. Of course, no one really knows for sure. I'm sure the folks at the WSOP thought their "Carnival" series from a couple years ago would have been a much bigger hit than it was. And I doubt many really saw how big Colossus would be that first year. So, you just don't know for sure till it happens.

In any case, this Giant event definitely seems to be geared towards rec players with its price point and weekend schedule. Yet, its a turbo format, it has no guarantee, is a 7:00pm to 3:00 am tourney and requires the player to come to vegas twice to make any serious money. These are all decidedly anti-rec-player factors. It really seems quite self-defeating.

In thinking it over, I don't think this will be nearly that popular. I imagine the first 4 starting flights will only get a few hundred entries each. The 7/7 flight will likely be the largest, but its on the same day as the primary ME satellite day and the Ladies event. The Rio can only accommodate ~5000 players at a time, so I don't see this final flight getting much over 1K. They may even have to cap it if those 1PM and 4PM satellites are heavily attended.

At this point, I just don't think the Giant will eclipse 2000 entries total. But I guess we'll have a better idea once that first flight is in the books.

Re: WSOP- 2017 ?

BTW, and I don't recall if this has been the case in the recent past, but the WSOP is raking their $365 events at 17.8%, and their $565 events at 11.5%. Makes you think a player would have to have an awfully good reason to play a $365 event over a $565 event.

You're assuming most rec players care about the rake percentage LOL. Most rec players will be like "$365 for a bracelet chance? I'm in." Half the field might be drunk once in the money too haha.

Didn't you say it will "easily" get 10,000? Why not make a wager for the under 10,000?

They do care about the rake.

I've never seen a drunk player in a bracelet event.

Because mine was a guess which I'm still pretty convinced of (it might be 9,000?) but at under 2,000 is a joke and I like free money

I don't know what you play, but I've played over 40 bracelet events last year and I've seen a **** TON of drunk guys playing. Including a ridiculously drunk guy in a $2,500 buyin at 11am in the morning, I even tweeted about it https://twitter.com/mblasterx/status/743520168131735552

On a $365 Friday night half of the people gonna be 4-5 drinks deep.

And, no they don't care about the rake as much as you think. They could put 30% juice and they'll still play a bracelet event for the bracelet because it's just fun for them it's not a job where you have to check your ROI.

I've been doing WSOP for about 8 years and closest I've seen was Gavin Smith in a sng satellite. So maybe I've just been lucky (or unlucky) depending on your point of view.

Last year, young Norwegian fellow was drunk enough for the whole table.
He showed up late for day two and still cashed.
