I was at Rio last week and they would not give out the lammers yet (two $500 lammers for winning the $1000 satellite). Recent email says you can start redeeming them May 30. I won one this year also and had one two years ago. You go to the payout cage and they verify that you were a winner and they give you two $500 lammers.

For me, I'm playing the Senior, which is a $1000 buy-in so it's perfect.

If I were you, I would play event #1, which should have a good field but no pros, which will cost you effectively $65 and you can sell the other lammer and devote that to the family (along with your winnings from event #1, hopefully).

Whatever you do, you get the joy of a "freeroll" at the WSOP, so enjoy it!

P.S. - now that WSOP.com has combined its Nevada site and NJ site, the size of the satellites has gone way up -- much harder now to win the lammers!

Yes, I got the email as well and it actually raises a new concern!
The email specifically states the lammers can be picked up starting at noon on May 30th... but Event #1 actually puts cards in the air at 11AM that same day!! Yikes, now I'll have to contact them to see if I can pick up the lammers early or else option 1 looks to be off the table. ( mean, I know I could just front myself the entry fee and sell a lammer to recoup, but psychologically that somehow wouldn't have the same "freeroll" feeling though).

Just an FYI, when I played and cashed in Event #1 before, there actually were some known pros... I was seated at the table with JRB at one point until he got knocked out.

Most importantly.... Good luck on your Seniors event, go get 'em!

#2 AINEC.

Stranger Things rocks & being a hero to your kid doesn't happen often enough.

If you consistently run well in the dailies then just employ good BR management and win enough to take a WSOP shot next year.

Worst case you late reg event 1, an hour is not a huge deal. But chances are they just have their heads up their keester and didn't realize first event was earlier than the payoff time.

Thanks for the perspective, I appreciate it. Also, just a correction to something I initially said, the Stranger Things "Upside Down" experience is actually coming to Universal Studios, not to Disneyland as I originally said. I got my theme parks mixed up.

You're also right about using BR management to take a shot, that's exactly how I funded my buy-ins the last time I played. I guess I'm just weird in that once I collect a win or decent cash, I really like to "lock in" some of the profits so I know there's no way I could lose it all back in an attempt to parlay via reinvestment in additional buy-ins. But I'm certainly willing to reinvest "some". Realistically though, I don't ever see myself banking $25K or so over the course of a year's play, and then using it all to buy in to 10 events at the following WSOP. I probably should, it's not that I don't think I'm good enough, I just don't have that much of the ol' gambool spirit in me, lol.
If I were a young man single and free things might be different...

You're probably right. And after checking the structure the first level is just the 25-25 and 50-100 levels. So, missing the first hour would bring me in at 75-150, which the last level before antes kick in. Not the end of the world, still plenty of play although of course I'd like to splash around a bit while the price of poker is still cheap.

I did find it weird that the lammer pickup email specifically said that (after May 30th) pickup would be available earlier in the day on days when there were events that started before noon. Yet on the very first day, there's an early tournament and noon pickup. <sigh>

Lammers would be sold and strippers would get the money.

I’ve reached out to the satellite folks multiple times now asking about getting my lammers picked up early on 5/30 but have not received any acknowledgement or response whatsoever... fingers crossed

Another option would be to split the $1,000 among 3-5 tournaments around town at the various other venues and use whatever you cash for to take the family to Disneyland or somewhere else...depending on how well you do. Hopefully, you'd have at least one deep run in that mix to recoup your $1,000 or turn a tidy profit.

Thanks for the perspective, @TuscaloosaJohnny. I kinda like the prestige of a potential bracelet run. Hadn't really thought about doing multiple $200-$300 tourneys. I guess my thought process has been, if I'm going to take a risk I'd like it to be for a bracelet? Even though I do realize that WSOP events don't necessarily offer the top value, per se. Does it make sense to say that the bracelet mystique has an allure that puts it into a different category and makes it more attractive than other events with a more player-friendly structure/rake. The proverbial "Taking A Shot", etc.

Quick update:
1) I still haven’t heard back from the wsop satellite office regarding a possible early pickup of my lammers.
2) I just played the Friday night $130 weekly at the Orleans. When we got to 3-handed, as a favor to the other 2 players I agreed to a 3-way chop for $3200 each. Confident I could have taken it down but this was at 5am and we had been playing for 10 hours and I had to be up early Saturday morning. I was satisfied with the 25x return on my buy-in investment and I was very pleased with my play. Hand of the day for me was getting away from a boat-over-boat situation where I had put my opponent on an exact hand. Board ran out to hit exactly to what I thought he had and I laid down my boat on the river. Mucked face up and told him what he had. Table went nuts and he couldn’t believe it, he did show that he had the exact hand I put him on. Everyone saw me a bit differently after that.
Point is... I am confident and comfortable that my play and reads are consistent. Gave wifey $1K and told her to book the vacay hotel etc. Soooooo it looks a lot more like I will be playing the full $1K lammers value. ;-)
Wish me luck!

Thank you! Quick update, I just picked up my lammers from the payout counter and their computers are down for the second day in a row so it took them nearly 30 minutes to actually pay me out. I used one of them to register for bracelet event #1.
Quick note, they are using some kind of air freshener pumped through the air conditioning system and it is nearly overwhelming - very very strong. It smells pleasant enough, but it definitely needs to be dialed back a little. If you’re sensitive to smells it may be an issue.

Level 1: 25/50.
Started w/5000, ended with 5975
Notable hands: nothing of note just small-balled a hand here & there.
Biggest pot won at showdown: $300
Biggest pot lost at showdown: lost no hands at showdown this level

Level 2: 50/100.
Started w/5975, ended with 7750.
Notable hands:
Biggest single win: 3200, someone mistook my semi-bluff for a total bluff and called me w/Ace High.
Biggest single loss: 1800, flopped a flush holding KQcc, villain stuck around to the river with Ac6h & caught the fourth club on the river.

Level 3: 75/150
Started w/7750, ended with 9150.

Two notable hands this level:
1) Lost 4K in one hand as follows:
Holding 10c10d, villain makes it 400 to go. Call and we’re heads up.
Flop: A-K-10. I check-call his bet and an Ace hits the turn to fill me up. I check-call his shove and he shows K-Q.
River: King of %$@£*#. At least he didn’t have more chips.

2) The very next hand, against the same player:
I make it 800 with AKss. Villain shoves. I call and am horrified to see him turn up AdAc.
Flop comes AQ10. I stand up and grab my bag.
Turn, glorious turn: Js.
River bricks and I drag an 8k pot. JUSTICE lol

Level 4: 75/150/(25)
Started w/9150, ended w/10900.
Notable hands: utterly card dead most of this level. Limped a KQ and folded to a PF shove.
Biggest win: last hand before break I make it 80 holding KK, same villain from earlier shoves A5o, my kings hold.
Other than that there was 1 hand where I made it 400 to go with AcAs. Two callers. Flop comes Qh-Jh-6c. I lead out for 1K and they both fold.
Biggest loss: just blinds & antes for most of the level. Missed the flop w/AK a couple times.

Tournament note:
They were going to break our table with 5 mins left in the level but the various floormen greatly disagreed on whether to break us. They ended up just taking our next big blind at the 3 minute mark.

Did you just say you were "utterly card dead" in a 30 minute level where you had AA, KK and "a couple of" AK?

Level 5: 100/200(25)
Started w/10900, ended w/8375.
They broke our table after one hand.
At the first hand at our new table, I lost 3800 on the first hand when I flopped top two w/KQss and he rivered bottom set... sigh

Lol I guess I’m just greedy like that.
It’s just that I got dealt 8 high SO many times, clearly it felt worse than it actually was!

Level 6: 150/300(50)
Started 8375, Ended 14475
Couple of raise-and-takes, & a 2K bluff on a scary board got through against the chip leader.
Set mining w/33 didn’t get there, cost 1200

Level 7: 200/400(50)
*Ugly level*
Started w/14475, ended 6025.
I raise with AKdd, flop comes Qd-Jd-4c. Turn and river are most uncooperative... Costs me $2450.
AJ misses (of course) that’s another 1100. I’m most bothered by this one because I knew better...
88 loses to AQ for 3650
Etc.
