I know you can do this for all the tournaments at the WSOP, this is, using a credit card to pay your entry (no cash advance), with a fixed fee.

Are there any other tournament series where you can do this? I remember Choctaw, any others?

Looks like a win-win situation, I wonder why is this not more mainstream, why the WSOP can do it and some other venues/tournaments can't?

In some cases, it is a gaming regulation that precludes the payment with a card. In other cases, the costs to the tournament promoter may be more than it is worth in terms of programming and costs for the equipment to process the cards.

As to summer series in Vegas, the WSOP was the only one last year that did cards. Other venues claimed they were considering it for the future, but I am unaware that any are setting up for cards this summer. And, even with WSOP, it was only the WSOP and not the WSOPc that took cards...in other words, not an option even for the WSOPc at the Rio last month.

The issues of cash advance fees are very much card-issuer dependent. Choctaw has gone to the point of warning players that they may incur fees because of how the transaction codes. It appears that the only way to be sure of avoiding the fees at Choctaw were to buy-in through their TicketMaster link, but then you still got the other 'handling' fees that TM charges.

And no, I am not trying to rain on the parade...I like my rewards and do what I can to max them at all opportunity. You will inevitably have some showing up in the thread that don't understand the concept of paying in full each month...instead, they will take the approach that the use of cards suggests you are playing over your spending ability. Disregard any of those sorts of posts. They often fail to understand the nuances of being a rewards whore or even just consolidation of expenses into one simple payment at the close of the billing cycle.

For whatever it's worth, the cc purchases made at WSOP are through the Bravo app, not the WSOP directly. Not sure how much they have to do with the decisions.

I think eventually CC, or some other form of electronic payment will become mainstream, but only as cash becomes less mainstream. I mean a day will come when the government decides printing all this difficult to counterfeit cash becomes too costly.

However, for now, how is paying a minimum of 3% more for something a "win" for players? I understand the convenience factor, but still, you're paying for that convenience. I mean, I don't typically complain about things like rake increases or whatever, but there are lots of people who lose their minds if the rake is increased .5%. Imagine if they increased by 3%, which is more or less what you're talking about by having an additional fee on your buy-in. I can't imagine people who play a lot of tournament poker would ever go for that. Its hard enough turning a profit as it is.

I will be using a credit card for every WSOP buy in I do this summer, but the only way I even consider doing it is because I plan on signing up for a 1-2 new credit cards for the sign up bonuses. These sign up bonuses should pay for my 10 night hotel. My current card is already paying for my flight.

I have one already picked out just need to find one more. Any of you know if the Total Rewards Credit Card lets you earn 5% for the WSOP buy in? I know they earn 5% at TR properties but unsure if WSOP is considered part of that.

Rewards whores can make it work, often through a combination of sign-up bonuses plus the manner in which miles or points are used down the road. I put pretty much ALL of my non-poker spending on credit cards and look at where the max rewards will come. With WSOP events, it requires looking a little deeper if they don't permit AXP since my preferred card is the Plat but even with a V/MC I don't use often, I still have options that will ultimately net me more than the 3% between bonus and the net 50-55 days between purchase and next statement period closing. That window won't exist for the person who only has a couple of cards, but it does with options...

Do not know the answer...but would not take a chance of closure by calling Comenity. They got twitchy with me over alleged inquiries last fall. Card opened right after I got back from WSOP and closed at the next statement closing date. Fortunately, I had cleared the bonus (this was when they had the small $1K spend requirement, if it was even that much). The only inquiry was the one associated with the original application. Have not stayed at a Caesars property since then so gathering points with them is no longer a priority...

Not new for WSOP...I believe this is the third year. Perhaps only the second for them accepting AXP though...

HOWEVER, it appears that WSOP at the Rio will again be the only series that is accepting them for payment.

I don't know if this is still the case but the Total Rewards CC could not be used to buy WSOP seats the first year that the WSOP offered this service as the issuing bank blocked the purchases. Crazy, but it happened.

Not sure if that card would have been the BofA product or the current Comenity POS...sounds like some crap Comenity would pull though.
