Anyone else completely underwhelmed with the Turning Stone schedule, aside from the 1M main event?

Any insights to the last couple years stops here and anything bad to say about it?

Thinking about making the trek out from Mass for a long weekend binge.

I've gone there the last 2 years heading back again for the last weekend. Not a bad venue, unfortunately I just tried to make reservation and they only had smoking rooms under the poker rate... I can't stand the smoke might try a nearby hotel instead.

Idk the schedules are almost all the same for most wsop circuit stops. The structures are bad minus maybe the monster stack and main event honestly. A lot of bad players with the WSOP circuit clout (don’t know why that exists bc the play is limited in events and no prestige winning a circuit ring if you ask me unless the main).

Hmm good stop. Not much to do in Verona but if poker is all you care about, fields will be super soft and good. Cash game action is solid during tourny series I guess even though I find cash action at turning stone to be a little lols.

I do not recommend the Super 8 in the village of Verona (a few miles down the road). Stayed there between days 1 and 2 of a TS tournament in June, and I woke up with two bedbug bites on my abdomen that didn't fully heal/disappear until last month. The bedbugs destroyed my tablet's power cord as well, lol.

The main event won't be super soft, because I'll be in it, heh. Finished 19th or something last year. Decent run. Deeb had it on lock from start to finish; regrettably, I never drew the same table as him

Last year, a few of my buddies and I rented an AirBnB near Syracuse for a week...of course, the only night I used it, there was a blinding snowstorm to contend with as my friend and I navigated unfamiliar dark roads in the abyss of Central NY. I'm from the Buffalo area, so low-visibility winter driving is hardly a foreign concept, but in this case my friend was behind the wheel, and he was kind of freaking out. We eventually made it to the little town of Cazenovia, and the house was nice and rustic. Way better than staying at TS or any nearby lodging

I've never been the biggest fan of Turning Stone itself, but they've made a few updates that have helped to erase or at least lessen the stuck-in-the-90s vibe I've always gotten from the place. Friend of mine who moved from Buffalo to DC to work for the Secret Service happened to draw the same table as me in the main event, and that fortunate seating assignment made my experience much more enjoyable than it may have otherwise been. Also, I ran well and had a respectable finish. Good times

Buffalo crushing it so far. Former Seneca Niagara regs Leo Kaplin, Bud Salhab, and Travell Thomas have won the last three rings (of which I'm aware--Leo won the seniors event (took me by surprise to learn he was 50), Bud won the 350k guarantee, and T won the 6-max.) I've had a few verbal run-ins with T at Buffalo-area PLO games over the past year, but I don't really hold grudges, and I'm happy for all of them. When I was eliminated 39th from the Saturday 4 PM $400 event, a quick scan of the room did not reveal any former Seneca regs remaining, so maybe I won the unofficial last -longest Buffalo-area competition there. One of the better players at my table told me he was from 2 hours south of Buffalo, but including a likely Jamestown or Olean resident as a Buffalonian would be generous at best, geographically illiterate at worst.

Moreover, my buddy informed me this morning that polarizing local loudmouth (lol--I've always gotten along with the guy, personally) Mike 'The Mayor' Rellinger enters day 2 of the ongoing PLO event with a commanding chip lead of 1.6m chips (with second largest stack being 600k, I've been told).

Let's go Buffalo, and let's go one specific Buffalonian (namely, me) when I return to the Revolving Rock for the main this weekend.

I’m assuming you MEANT to say “anything nice to say about it” so I’ll be happy to assist:

Turning Stone does an incredible job hosting the WSOP Circuit, and the traveling WSOP show works seamlessly with TS to run a fantastic series of events.

I highly recommend any amateur to serious poker player avail themselves of what TS offers its poker players, because the poker room at Turning Stone is run with poise and efficiency by the best poker team of managers and dealers on the entire east coast.

I suggest that if you choose to play in the TS WSOP next year, be mindful of the following:

-as with any vacation, you need to book your room well in advance - I booked mine in November for the WSOP. So many people have been complaining about rooms being sold out and only smoking rooms available - plan in advance and you have no issue!

-the events center is always cold - it’s winter in upstate NY, and we are playing in a 6,000 seat arena. wear a hoodie and bring a hat.

-the poker room does not take callaheads for cash games during the WSOP, so be prepared to wait a little for a seat, especially as tournaments are breaking. They are well staffed and the team works hard to seat guests promptly, but patience and maturity is needed because of the chaos, and gets rewarded if you are courteous to their staff as we all should be towards hospitality professionals.

-the payout structures for WSOP are very too heavy - they will pay 15% of the field, but there’s a lot of min cash places and sharp bumps in payouts as you go deeper, this is par for the course for WSOP events so do your research and know what to expect instead of getting upset that finishing in the top 9-14% doesn’t pay what you feel you think it should - these aren’t home games. WSOP sets this, not turning stone - pretty sure the same structures are used for all circuits and for WSOP in Vegas.

-sign up for your WSOP tournaments well in advance - don’t show up 5 minutes before the event starts and expect to sit before cards are in the air. If you sign up 90 minutes before a tournament starts, you have plenty of time to grab a drink, eat something, hydrate, and get to your table before play begins. I saw so many people getting antsy while waiting in lines because cards were in the air and they weren’t seated yet and worried about joining in with 67 BB instead of 100, especially for the 1-day events - the WSOP runs with about four cashiers at highest volume, so choosing the right time to register helps you avoid long lines.

-Turning stone is clean, staffed with friendly professionals, accommodating to those who treat hospitality workers and other humans with respect, and offers a fantastic getaway with something for everyone.

The Buffalo crowd did well. I also thought the NH crowd did quite well.

Syracuse folks- we are slacking. I had a FT in an event you wanted to FT though. Syracuse folks- we will get them next year. Another friend made a ft from cuse but didn’t close the deal. 2025 will be better for cuse.

Btw great job to Frankie and turning stone! They do a great job. I liked how the room was kinda colder than the actual poker room. Cash games were good but I found the poker room to be fairly warm bc it was so packed. Great job all around though! Great stop

The tournament hall went back and forth; sometimes I wore a pullover, but a short-sleeved shirt was usually enough.

Managed to FT the main event, my only cash in the week there. Looking forward to another go next year.
