Every one thinks 2021 will be the biggest WSOP ever !

Anyone thinks we can reach over 30,000 participants ?

What is your guess ?

I don’t think how it’s possible to cross over 30000 with only 3 Day 1 starting Flights!!

Anyway all 3 flights will be sold out . Advisable to pre register.
I really do not think we beat 28k considering big 50 had 4 starting days, and that they stretched re-entries to the max (2 hours lines to re-enter, until almost end of day).
Also, there is the pandemic factor. Today, foreigners still have difficulties entering the US because of regulations. It might be eased by then but we could also face a recess.
So if I had to bet on # of entries, I'd say something lower than ppl would expect: 21k entries.

A day or two ago, WSOP said live at the Rio this year was still uncertain. I think they’re keeping a close eye on the Delta variant. It would seriously suck if they had to cancel again.

Someone in another thread pointed out that they may have meant they brought back the online events before they knew about the live events. If that’s the case, it was poorly worded and an odd thing to say in an article from yesterday.

https://www.reviewjournal.com/sports...rtain-2390584/

Emphasis on the first or second paragraph where it says they brought back the WSOP Online given the uncertainty of the WSOP at the Rio this year.

May be confusing but WSOP in September/ November is NOT uncertain .
( I Hope So)

I was planning to play Reunion on 10/03 (Flight 4C) and use my planned 2 bullets . But now have 2nd thought after realizing how tough it will be to get back with re-buy.

I will try to play 4 A or 4 B.

I plan on playing the reunion and possibly the flip and go.
Trying to convince my home game to split the entry with me, but they want to know how much the mincash will be for.

I'll be contributing my $500 to the reunion prize pool. Lotteries can be fun!

The flip-and-go is going to be weird. If you win your flip, you're in the money with tons of bad players who would normally be weeded out in the first few hours of the tournament.

If it's like recent wsop events, about 1.5x the buy-in. I don't know if they will be doing anything different for the flip and go.

+1. My guess is 17500. I have a hard time imagining this event will set a record. The logistics just won't work unless they do something weird and add flights at some point. I will also be interested in seeing if this ends up being the biggest series ever. The demand is certainly there. But costs have risen so much it may prohibit people from participating as much as they would otherwise, irrespective of any restrictions still in place due to COVID. I, for one, will probably only go out for about 1/2 to 2/3 of the number of days I would normally due to the significant increases in travel costs.

This is a solid point.

The other thing to factor in is the possible lack of a large international contingent. If the foreign numbers are down by a significant percentage then it could drag down all the field sizes despite demand.

I think your guess is so close to correct! As per structure sheet they are expecting to end Day 2 with 5 players remaining!

I think there will be considerably fewer than that. Far fewer foreigners, there is juice this year compared to juice-free in 2019, lots of people are still afraid of covid, and some people are disillusioned after last time with the multi-hour waits to register and then the multi-hour waits to get seated.

This is true but I’m not certain how big a factor it will be. If memory serves, the percentage of people from outside the US playing the WSOP was something like 25%. I could be wrong about that figure but I thought I saw something like that in 2018 or 2019. In any case, I believe the majority of WSOP attendees are from NV or CA. There’s always the chance CA imposes travel restrictions But I assume NV will be completely open for business.

And very high prices of hotel accommodation and 2 to 3 time higher Airfare will also affect budget traveler’s participation.

Over the year cheap airfares, affordable hotel rooms and food were some of the reasons for Las Vegas success

I tweeted at Kevmath about this. I think it's a typo and should be 17 levels or 5 players whichever comes FIRST, not whichever comes later. I would anticipate a couple hundred people at end of Day 2, not 5!

The min-cash in the Reunion will be $800. The min-cash in the flipngo will be $1750. 15% of the field is paid in the Reunion, 12.5% of the field is paid in the flipngo.

I've booked my trip out there, haven't been to Vegas in over a decade. This will be my first WSOP tournament I've played (not including circuit events).

I'm sure it'll be a shitshow given the massive crowds. Still should be an entertaining experience.

He wasn’t responding to you. He was just pointing out that he hopes the WSOP is prepared for possibly record setting field sizes.
