As a comical note- I’ve noticed that on multi flight type events- the biggest stacks tend to generate around biggest field days. I know this is a goofy thing to say but just feel there is more value playing the flights with bigger fields. At local tourny recently- one flight got 200 players and another got 1k. The 1k flight yielded prolly a 140% chip leader vs the smaller field. Not a big deal but just feel there is more soft play when you get the bigger fields. For wsop main- I’m sure I would just go best day for your schedule bc the structure is amazing. Think last flight is prolly best though if it gets biggest # of players.
If the flights play down to the same exact % remaining, then there should be zero difference in average stack size. Whether there is a difference in max stack size, is likely pretty random, mathematically, but there could be some slight correlation based on a number of factors, especially with re-entry events. For example, players play differently in last flights. The action is different, as is how players treat short stacks, and this certainly could effect the stack size distribution.
Larger flights also often have other factors which are different. They often take longer because of the logistics of color-ups, table break downs and dealer scheduling. And many times, they do not even play down to the same exact % as earlier flights due to the allotted levels being reached.
As I, and others, have said before… by a wide margin, the biggest factor in one’s success at any tournament will be the table draw… especially the first table draw if tables do not break down quickly. And this is usually completely out of a player’s control. When it comes to choosing which flight to play, players should decide based on the things they can control… such as their schedule, and not worry so much about other things.
