Speaking of pricepoint... i'm not sure I understand the reasoning behind raising the buy-in and rake this year. While there isn't a huge difference between 1650 and 2000, I think there is enough of a psychological difference that you lost some entries. Last year’s main event had the same guarantee, cost 350 less, and got near DOUBLE the entries. You made a ton more money on the event last year. Scheduling had a lot to do with it, but I don’t think scheduling alone accounts for such a drastic difference in interest.
I think word has gotten around as to how bad these tournaments are. I heard several people at the WSOP events talking about it. It's the same old story with the issues you mentioned, the terrible lighting, the crappy chips that are all the same color. It all points to PHo being too cheap and too indifferent to fix things.
