This reminds me a lot of the old PHamous series at Planet Hollywood. There’s definitely an unmet market < $600 and for mixed games. But that series at PH started botching their larger guarantee/buy in events the last few years.

I guess we’ll have to wait to see what MGM has in mind for structure. But if 60 minute levels means players will be able to buy in close to the bubble like they were able to at PH, then no thanks.

Has there been any confirmation of the MGM series/schedule? Been a few days since the Twitter rumors but I haven't seen anything from official MGM Grand Poker yet...

MGM poker series could be big, monorail running from MGM to WSOP will be very convenient.

That might be the first time in the history of the Las Vegas monorail that it has appeared in the same sentence as the word 'convenient'.

If it was good enough for Brockway, Ogdeville and North Haverbrook, then it was certainly good enough from Vegas.

I was able to dig up some archival footage of the public meeting discussing the proposed monorail.

That one makes sense. It is held the day before the World Series of Gin Rummy starts.

Would be odd and a big blow to reputation if that was not the schedule or at least close in principle. But I don’t know chit about the industry and the labor situation

Doesn't look final yet but there have been changes to MGM

Gone are the Dramaha and Chicago tournaments, and some guarantees may have dropped on stuff they kept

MGM having a mixed game heavy tournament series really surprises me in a good way, spent plenty of hours there feb/march and it was always NL exclusively. i tried getting some HORSE or Oe etc games going , and no player ever wanted to , as they were all nl specialist .

Sad, two of the tournaments I would have played for sure. Still, a good schedule with a few other things I'll play.

Convenient or inconvenient MGM Grand is calling their series "The Grand Summer Series" just as Golden Nugget is running their "Grand Poker Series"

It's quite a schlep from the monorail to the inside of the actual hotels, so it won't be that convenient. More than going to the Rio, but ...

Looking forward to the structures. This seems like it should be a very competitive schedule for mixed game players, but they made some odd choices with the NLH schedule. I suppose this is bound to happen in a crowded field and coming out with your schedule late in the game.

For example, all three of their Grand Mystery Bounty (6/9), Big Show Main Event (6/23) and Grand Mystery Bounty (7/7) events compete directly with WSOP events. This means their day 2's coincide, making it difficult to play both.

you're calling bounty tournaments vs nlh tournaments, and 1700 buyin vs 400 buyin competing directly?

might as well just say that every tournament on the whole schedule is directly competing against wsop because mgm and wsop both have tournaments every day, at multiple times every day, that make it difficult to to play both.

I agree that the 400 vs 1700 price point is not the same. But there is overlap. For example, I would play both if possible. And having tournaments running at the same time is not what I’m talking about. Of course, there are tourneys all over Vegas running at the same time. What I mean is, when two tourneys have the same day 2, you basically have to choose to play one or the other. I haven’t analyzed every single event scheduled to see if there were better options for MGM, but as it stands there are several events I won’t be playing, but very well might have were it not for their direct conflicts. As a newcomer, I would think MGM would try to make it as easy to choose them.

But either way, I’ll try to play their ME depending on how things go with other tourneys. I am curious to see what the event is like at MGM. Like I said previously, their schedule with its large number of day 1’s gives me a heavy PHamous Series vibe. That could either be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on which year we’re talking about. And, of course, we’ll have to see what they’re doing with their structures.

I dreamed that the structures of the MGM tournaments would be as beautiful as those of the PH because for the moment we cannot say that the structures of the low buy in series announced are very interesting... If it hey are crapshot I am not sure about the success of this very ambitious festival.
