Some quick math. Last year's $500 Housewarming event drew 20,080 entries at 11.2% fees, which comes to $1,124,480. This year's Mystery $1,000 Mystery Millions is the first big event in the series, with 4 flights. Fees are 7.7%. To make as much as the Housewarming, they would need 14,600 entries. The same event last year was held late in the series and drew 14,112 entries. I agree, I don't think they'll have any problem surpassing 15k entries into that event this year, and making a good deal more money from it than they did from the Housewarming.
I also think it's smart of them to start with this as the first huge field event before they get to the $300 Gladiators, as it gives them another week to get additional employees there and gives all of them a warm-up before what could easily end up being the largest field they've ever had. With that low a price point, they should attract a large number of first-timers, but it also encourages multiple re-entries. I bet they blow past 30k for that event and set a new record.
