This gridlock is hurting business for everybody… casinos, restaurants, retail, drivers, and more. Not to mention screwing up labor, deliveries, etc.
If the suggestion to close the whole thing down was made this year and the casinos complained, I would understand since they probably assumed it would be managed much better than it has been. But now that they see the reality, I don’t think they will complain. Shutting the whole thing down for a week during a relatively slow period so that it is functional the rest of the time would be a welcome alternative to what we have seen this year.

Yes, in a little over 7 months.

Not just during the race, but for 2 days prior when they have practice and qualifying. That means the mobs will come to Vegas to be anywhere near the Strip, not just the 60k or so that can get a super bowl ticket.
I’m not comparing the experiences. I’m comparing the number of people and demand for hotel rooms. Outside of the logistical hurdles and construction problems, I’m sure the race itself will be quite a spectacle. Any yet another cool new thing that Vegas is introducing.
However, at least by one estimate, it’s “only” going to attract some 170k visitors to LV.

Maybe they will blow this number away. Who knows? There is certainly a lot of hype for this event. But compare that to the Super Bowl….
LV already attracts 300k visitors for that event alone when it’s not being held in LV. I have seen estimates of an extra 100k next year. Even the NFL Draft brought in 300k when it was in LV in 2022.
F1 racing just doesn’t compare to the NFL in the U.S. Maybe events like this race will increase interest.

I don’t know if there is any good traffic avoidance advice at this point. It changes day to day and hour to hour. The best bet is to use google maps or whatever and plan a lot of extra time when coming to the area.
I know they’re behind schedule, but if the current situation continues into September it will be a debacle. I think what they really have to worry about is how the new surface will hold up in the heat.
