It was usually 50-75% of what a cab would cost.

This link can help you calculate the taxi fare in Vegas.

https://www.feelingvegas.com/taxi-fare-in-las-vegas/.

The other benefit to taxis is they are almost always available right away if you’re at one of the major casinos. There could be lines but in my experience those go pretty quickly and are shorter than they were prior to rideshare.

Anyhow, if there’s a route a person may take a number of times, I would try to take a cab or do a calculation and see how much it costs. Then at least you have something to compare to when looking at rideshare pricing. Cab fares will fluctuate based on traffic (they charge for time), but you can get a sense of the typical price using the link above.
Are you still there? How is the traffic on Flamingo? How about the F1 road work?

What about Linq?

Just got back from a two week hiatus. LVB looks better in front of Paris/Horseshoe, but I wouldn’t say things are normal. And it doesn’t even look “done” meaning there may be more work to come. Can’t speak to
Flamingo.

And I hear the back entrance “shortcut” to Horseshoe through Arlie is being heavily used so there’s traffic there too. Bottom line is, people need to plan ahead and give themselves extra time if they are driving all the way in to the WSOP.

Doing this much roadwork during the summer is crazy. I don’t recall when the F1 contract was finalized, but this phase doesn’t seem to be going very well. I certainly hope we’re not back in the same position next year. It’s a 10 year contract, I believe.

If you are walking from Linq to Horseshoe or vice versa make sure you take the back road. You can exit out of the Horseshoe food court and it’s a 5 minute walk. I mistakenly tried LVB and the walkways are closed off so you have to detour around. It was about 20-25 minutes that route.

My taxi driver told me it was almost an hour getting to Horseshoe from Mandalay yesterday. It took me 10-15 minutes but I arrive an hour or more early. There were lane closures and we did get congested for a bit. Not sure I believe the driver but I’d plan for extra time.

Thanks!

I think the F1 deal was made about a year and a half ago. The problem with doing it early is that there would then be more time for the new pavement to get damaged.

I found a Strip hotel that has rooms available for the race for ONLY $600 a day. There's no chance of getting a Strip-facing room without some sort of connections though.

Is there a way to point to the food court on google maps? Horseshoe food court didn’t pull up anything. And are the linq rooms close to the back road?

The Horseshoe food court is in the bottom level. If you know where the Jack Binions Steakhouse, or the new My Asia restaurant are, theres an escalator is in the vicinity. Also, if you exit the area where the WSOP is being played at the Horseshoe, past the elevators on the right and hang a left against the wall, the escalator is right there.

Go down and keep going straight till you get to the food court. The doors out are on the left. You will need to cross flamingo but there’s a crosswalk. After crossing, keep going straight on Linq lane. This is the “back” entrance street to the Linq, Harrahs and is a little bit of a shortcut to the Venetian as well. I think the back entrance to the Linq is right by where the High Roller ferris wheel is. Be aware that Linq lane has virtually zero sun protection, though this path is a bit shorter.

I can’t vouch for the poster who said the LVB sidewalk is closed, as I have not gone that way in a couple weeks. That being said it would kinda surprise me since walking on LVB in that area usually involves walking though one casino after another to stay out of the sun. It would be odd to not be able to do that, but this construction is a **** show, so certainly within the realm of possibility.

It just seems crazy to me to try and put down fresh asphalt in the summer in Vegas. It will cure slowly, leading to a mess for drivers and pedestrians, never mind the construction hassle. And it will be easier to damage from traffic. It does not bode well if they are going to have to do it every year to try and create a pristine racing surface.

They might be better off just closing that whole section of the strip for a few days to finish the job in one go as opposed to making it borderline unusable for large stretches. There are some really slow periods in Vegas after Labor Day. Maybe it’s pushing it too close to the race, but early September seems like a timeframe where they could close the strip and just get it done quickly.

Yeah, I’ve been seeing rates of 2-2.5x typical, which is on par with NYE. And that’s just to get a room, never mind one with any sort of view of the race course. I imagine tickets to the viewing pavilions will be crazy expensive, if not already sold out.

Makes me wonder what the Super Bowl will be like. Could make this FI race look like a cake walk.

It’s not completely closed but you have to detour through a walkway that winds around and takes you to the Cromwell and Flamingo. It was narrow, crowded and took forever. The northbound overpass on LVB was closed. If you got to the top you had to go across LVB and couldn’t keep going North. There was construction going on right below the overpass.

For the poster looking on google maps, google Batista’s Hole in the Wall. The food court entrance is about 500 feet SE of that.

For me the Linq was a great area for dinner break. It was an quick walk and there is an In and Out and the Gordon Ramsey Fish and Chips that are both fast. The fish and chips were great.

I was in Glendale the week before and week of the Super Bowl. I was in a Holiday in that looked at the stadium. Rates were around $120 and then about Thursday it went up to $600. I had to move to Scottsdale and rooms were normal. It seemed like the rates the media were quoting were way out of line with reality. “It’s 6k for an Airbnb”. That didn’t seem real.

You gotta remember Vegas is pretty busy in the winter even without the Super Bowl. I’m guessing rates on the strip will be like 4-5x normal. And anything associated with a superbowl party, like maybe stuff at the Wynn, will be even more.

Driving from California, would it be better to exit the 15 north at flamingo and go straight over or exit Tropicana and drive the strip up to Horseshoe?

Flamingo was a complete **** show this afternoon headed towards koval. Hard to really know when any of these roads in and around the race route will become major headaches. This was not well planned.

The hotels would probably give them too much flack. But yeah, Vegas does not plan road construction well. It's as bad as California.

Is there going to be a super bowl in Vegas? It won't be anything like the F1. In order to be at or "experience" the super bowl you have to be in the stadium. Not the same with F1. Have you ever heard an F1 race? You can hear them from a couple miles away - inside your hotel room. If you're anywhere near the Strip, in your room or out, in a casino or out, you'll be immersed in the race noise. Not just during the race, but for 2 days prior when they have practice and qualifying. That means the mobs will come to Vegas to be anywhere near the Strip, not just the 60k or so that can get a super bowl ticket.

My hope is that room prices continue to drop, maybe to where they're just a little bit unreasonable. I'll get to hear the sounds, and see some of the circus (and F1 IS a circus). I won't bribe a host to get a Strip view room. Maybe I'll find a way to see some of the practice. But I will watch the race on the tv in my room.

It sounds like the best way to get OUT of the place is either onto the Strip, or towards Harmon? The closer it gets to race day the worse it will be because they'll probably be behind schedule.

Another good map that's very detailed can be found by searching "las vegas strip map". Use the one on Caesars.com. Follow Flamingo east until you see Johnny Rockets. That's in the food court on the bottom floor. You may need to zoom in on the map.

Getting out onto the strip (from Horseshoe) was it’s own problem. It seems as if the thing to do is to block intersections after the light(s) turn red.

Staying at Horseshoe so the couple of times out, for dinner, or for a GN tournament, etc., required “extra time” built in.

Last Saturday was its own mess b/c the strip was partially shutdown for the Golden Knights parade.

I booked a panoramic suite at Vdara for the weekend of the F1 race. The room has a strip view and massive window as so I’m guessing a person will be able to see at least some of the race from the room. For the two nights it’s $4,500 and I only got that rate because I have some status with MGM. My plan is to try and “sell” that room to someone else for $3k a night and make a little profit. We’ll see if it ends up working. Vdara didn’t make me put a deposit down so I’m kinda free rolling and I’ll just cancel if I can’t make money off it

This gridlock is hurting business for everybody… casinos, restaurants, retail, drivers, and more. Not to mention screwing up labor, deliveries, etc.

If the suggestion to close the whole thing down was made this year and the casinos complained, I would understand since they probably assumed it would be managed much better than it has been. But now that they see the reality, I don’t think they will complain. Shutting the whole thing down for a week during a relatively slow period so that it is functional the rest of the time would be a welcome alternative to what we have seen this year.

I’m not comparing the experiences. I’m comparing the number of people and demand for hotel rooms. Outside of the logistical hurdles and construction problems, I’m sure the race itself will be quite a spectacle. Any yet another cool new thing that Vegas is introducing.

However, at least by one estimate, it’s “only” going to attract some 170k visitors to LV.

https://m.lasvegassun.com/news/2022/...will-draw-170/

Maybe they will blow this number away. Who knows? There is certainly a lot of hype for this event. But compare that to the Super Bowl….

LV already attracts 300k visitors for that event alone when it’s not being held in LV. I have seen estimates of an extra 100k next year. Even the NFL Draft brought in 300k when it was in LV in 2022.

F1 racing just doesn’t compare to the NFL in the U.S. Maybe events like this race will increase interest.

I don’t know if there is any good traffic avoidance advice at this point. It changes day to day and hour to hour. The best bet is to use google maps or whatever and plan a lot of extra time when coming to the area.

I know they’re behind schedule, but if the current situation continues into September it will be a debacle. I think what they really have to worry about is how the new surface will hold up in the heat.

F1 isn't extremely popular among Americans, but a lot of people around the world are rabid for it. When I went to the races in the 80's, there was a huge contingent from Brazil, waving a giant Brazilian flag. Likewise for several other countries.

I think most of your post makes sense but this part doesn’t. I went to Austin last year for the race and sat at turn 12 and one of the comments our entire group has was just how quiet the track would be when the cars are on the ends of the course, when the cars were down by 10 and 11 or 20 and 1, if the field was bunched you couldn’t hear any of them. I imagine Vegas is going to be quieter than you think, especially due to all of the ambient noise indoors that will drown out the race noise.

I went to both races in the 80's. First one, we were staying at the Stardust, where Resorts World is now. The race was at Caesars. Inside our room, we knew we were late to watch practice because we could hear them. Second year, I was at Bally's, and I could hear the cars with ease inside my room. The cars only went to 11,000 rpm back then, they go 15,000 now. Maybe it was all the skyscrapers and relatively flat ground the Strip sits on.

Coming to Vegas Thursday to play colossus.

I booked a room at the rio as I booked late and that was the most cost effective for me.

Curious if other than Uber / taxi there’s any other way of transportation between rio and horseshoe/Paris?

Otherwise might just walk the 30 min…

I've done the walk from Rio to strip several times. A little dodgy and probably not something you want to be doing a bunch, but it's doable.

Not sure about shuttle or bus options from the Rio.
