Paying cash and buying into an event a few weeks in advance is no issue. I will be buying into the main many weeks in advance when I make my first of two trips. Just hold onto your seat ticket and if it gets lost they can always print another with your rewards card and id.

I see no reason to eat another credit card fee. Just need to go sometime later at night when lines are short to avoid the morning rush of that days tourney.

Won a ticket to the $1500 millionaire maker. I will be playing Day 1B. I've played in the WSOP dailies and other venues in vegas, but this would be my first time playing for a ring event.

What is the first few levels like in the millionaire maker? Are people more agressive? Should I just play solid and wait for good spots to chip up? What has been everyones experience?

I’ve played it a half dozen times or so. I haven’t noticed any patterns. It’s entirely table draw-driven. Plan to play whatever game you’re used to playing and adjust for the play around you accordingly.

Never good to go into an event with a concrete strategy about how you want to play. Always better to wait and see, and then adjust accordingly. However, I played the Monster Stack last year and the overall level of my starting table was nothing to fear. The usual mixture of 2-3 solid players, 2-3 mediocre players, and 2-3 guys who have almost zero chance of cashing. These tournaments have deep stacks and 60 minute levels, so you can afford to be patient and pick good spots.

Can you just fire up the Bravo app and do it there? How would you get your new seat assignment?
They give every late/new player the same seat assignment. When you get there, you find a WSOP official that gives you your real assignment.

The one time I played that, first table I had Greg Raymer to my direct left.

I have registered for one event in advance using the Bravo Live app. But I can't figure out how to "load money" onto the app. I have the app set up to do a direct withdrawal from my bank account. Is that the same thing? How would one load money, and what's the advantage vs. using an ACH direct withdrawal?

I really liked the STT's and considered not going at all, but I'll probably play the Colossal and maybe a senior something or other.
Yeah, killing off the STTs really degrades the experience for me playing the WSOP. I guess theoretically they free up a few tables for big events, but Rio never had that problem. IMO it relates to getting rid of lammers, which is another player amenity WSOP got rid of.

If anyone here is concerned about the tax implications of WSOP getting rid of lammers and going with either casino chips or tournament seat, below is a link which describes the issue fairly clearly.

Why would anyone be concerned over how the WSOP makes its payouts.

I don’t think it will change anything.

Previously they never asked your SS # and never issued W2 G for any net winnings of $5000 or under this were not reported too IRS.

And that will be same for this year too.

* As per Kevin Mathers, “we know payouts will work like this:
….Satellites with a seat value less than $5,000 will award casino chips (the same chips used for cash games) to all winners. There may be certain events that award direct-entry seats as well. “
* I don’t foresee any problems for casing casino chips , unless some special chips or procedures we don’t know yet.

I don’t see any problem for 90% of the players as they are under $5000 winners.

Other over net $5000 winners were reported previously anyway.

If you win the $2700 satty to $25K high roller on June 5, you get a direct entry only, and you will have made the net value of the entry, $22,300, tax free, not just taxed on the honor system but really tax free. Your tax basis is $2700 not $25K. (According to kevmath and the CPA referenced upthread).

Similarly, with the $50K/100K sattys on June 7 and 10, you could possibly get a direct entry with a tax basis of $625 or even $120.

I'm heading out June 6th-14th to play:

$1500 Badugi
$1000 8-max PLO
$300 $3 Million GTD Gladiators of Poker

This will be my third ever visit to Vegas (last trip was 2009), but my FIRST time ever playing a WSOP and I NEED TIPS!.

I'm staying at The Mirage the majority of the trip, then MGM Grand the last few nights.

TRANSPORTATION

Any tips on transportation? I heard there's a monorail or something out that way, is that a good idea to use for getting to and from the properties or should I expect to have to use cabs/uber?

REGISTERING FOR EVENTS

Planning to buy in for events the day prior to avoid any headaches with lines the day of events (I know there'll still be lines but it won't impact my start time if it's the day prior). Any tips on this process for a first-timer?

FILMING/VLOGGING

I know DNEGS was making WSOP Vlogs and even had some at the table footage, but I thought that wasn't permitted and don't want to do anything that will get me disqualified from an event. What should I expect is permissable?

FOOD

Since I'm there for a little over a week planning to try and buy some odds n' ends/groceries so I can make sandwiches or salads and not have to pay tons on eating out every meal or getting stuck in long lines during break times. Any recommendations for where to shop for groceries while on the strip?

ALTERNATIVE EVENTS/PROPERTIES

Depending on whether I make a Day 2 or 3 it could prevent me from playing some of the events on my schedule. Any other properties or events folks recommend to fill in potential gaps? I could also do cash games (PLO, Big O or fixed limit mixed games) so would love recommendations for where to go during the series for these (anything from 1/2 to 5/10 big bet or 8/16 - 30/60 fixed limit)

ANYTHING ELSE?

Any other helpful tips you can offer?

Hey, I just went to sign up for some events and saw that some events, like the Seniors and Mini Main don't allow you to register online. Anyone know why that is?

(if that's already been discussed in a prior post just point me in that direction thanks)

The monorail is a pain to get to and from as it is at the back of the hotels and requires a long walk. From the Mirage walking is the fastest option to the WSOP. Strip traffic makes cab or Uber slow.

If you register the day before your stack goes into play at the start of the tournament, so be on time. Best times to register are late at night right after rebuy closes for any tournaments still running.

FILMING/VLOGGING

Lots of people taking video of tournament action with their phones at all times.

Not on the strip.
Take Flamingo Road East a mile or so and there is an Albertsons. Uber or take the city bus. It will be to hot and too far to walk.

There is another thread on other tournament series during the WSOP with schedules.

What does the WSOP’s payout policy have to do with paying taxes?

We are rapidly approaching a world in which dodging one’s tax obligation will become nearly impossible for the average person. If the post was meant as a public service announcement for tax deadbeats, then fine. It likely serves its purpose.

Now, how a person chooses to meet their financial obligations is between them, their accountant, their God and the IRS. But I feel like poker players are pretty cavalier about openly discussing policies which make it easier or harder for them to cheat on their taxes. These are the only tax implications of recent changes in WSOP policies.

The point of posting the article was to alert those who want to follow proper tax reporting obligations due to 2023 WSOP changes, not to alert tax deadbeats.

They list a 3 pm $240 satty for $2k that's running everyday for the series, and a 4 pm $240 satty for the bounty this weekend. Are they going to be running both, or will the satty for the bounty take the 3pm's place?
