Yes, you read that correctly. At the end of last year, poker got declared an intellectual sport by our sporting commission, so a national poker association got created (website, sadly only in spanish, is http://adnpoker.org/adn/).

So they created the Mexican Series of Poker, a 4-series circuit throughout the year. The first stop, as the title implies, is in Playa del Carmen, in a week and half, from April 16th to April 22nd. Sorry about the very short notice, but it hadn't occurred to me to promote it.

Although the buyins and prizes are modest, bear in mind that this is the first year, in a country where the player pool is much smaller, and very few pros. With your help, it will grow.

However, for those of you who feel like spending a week in paradise, the schedule is:

Super High Roller - April 16th - buyin around 3,000 bucks
Six-max KO - April 17th - buyin around 250 bucks
Turbo survivor - April 17th - 150 bucks
Main Event - April 18th - 800 bucks - Aprox. 500,000 guaranteed in prize money
Aces+/Omaha dealer's choice - April 19th - 170 bucks
High Roller - April 21st - 1,300 bucks - 100,000 guranteed
Second chance bounty - April 22nd - 250 bucks

Most of the big latin names are already booked, and of course, a major draw of the tourney is spending a week in Playa.

So anyway, that's that. Hopefully someone from here will go. The page for more info on the tourney, again in spanish, is http://adnpoker.org/adn/eventos

Help grow poker in Mexico!!

Are all the events in Playa Del Carmen? Do you have the schedule for the other series in 2018? Are they all at all inclusive resorts? I'd like to come for one and I'm sure a lot of players will travel to these when the word gets out.

Only this first one is in Playa (this of course includes the schedule I posted).

The next ones will be:
Querétaro: July 16th to the 22nd
Acapulco: September 10th to the 16th
Mexico City: November 13th to the 20th

I'm guessing only in Acapulco will be all inclusive, but for sure they will have some promotion in all cities for a cheaper stay for those who come to the tournaments.

Queretaro is on the small side, about 2 hrs by car north of Mexico City. One of the traditional colonial cities, as it was founded by the Spanish, so it has a very beautiful old town part.

I'm guessing you already know what Acapulco offers.

And Mexico City is, well, huge, with a lot of stuff to do, from Aztec ruins, to museums, nightclubs, etc.

I wish Tijuana, BC would be a stop as I know I, and many others in the San Diego poker community (and probably L.A. poker community) would participate.

As a 2/5 'low roller" and tournament player, I do like those buy-ins.

The $800 Main Event buy-in for a half million guarantee, sure beats double that buy-in for the main event for our local WSOP Circuit event at Harrah's Rincon..

Personally, I would have gone with Cabo, instead of either Acapulco or Querétaro. Like you mention, I think the San Diego and LA poker communities would have easily made the trip. Plus, and this is the important part... Cabo is freaking awesome.

Cabo is awesome but still too far for many in San Diego/L.A.

Not sure if Rosarito Beach or Ensenada has the proper facilities, but both those are easy drives from the border.

It will be interesting to see if they meet their Main Event guarantee..
