Yes, you read that correctly. At the end of last year, poker got declared an intellectual sport by our sporting commission, so a national poker association got created (website, sadly only in spanish, is
http://adnpoker.org/adn/).
So they created the Mexican Series of Poker, a 4-series circuit throughout the year. The first stop, as the title implies, is in Playa del Carmen, in a week and half, from April 16th to April 22nd. Sorry about the very short notice, but it hadn't occurred to me to promote it.
Although the buyins and prizes are modest, bear in mind that this is the first year, in a country where the player pool is much smaller, and very few pros. With your help, it will grow.
However, for those of you who feel like spending a week in paradise, the schedule is:
Super High Roller - April 16th - buyin around 3,000 bucks
Six-max KO - April 17th - buyin around 250 bucks
Turbo survivor - April 17th - 150 bucks
Main Event - April 18th - 800 bucks - Aprox. 500,000 guaranteed in prize money
Aces+/Omaha dealer's choice - April 19th - 170 bucks
High Roller - April 21st - 1,300 bucks - 100,000 guranteed
Second chance bounty - April 22nd - 250 bucks
Most of the big latin names are already booked, and of course, a major draw of the tourney is spending a week in Playa.
So anyway, that's that. Hopefully someone from here will go. The page for more info on the tourney, again in spanish, is

Help grow poker in Mexico!!
