You're 100% correct. If any company in any other industry sponsored an event, then they could and should be liable for costs as well. It is not lame for you to implicitly or explicitly say this. It is the case and 888 should be working just as hard as you to get you your money.

888 were "official sponsors" which is a lot more than just being advertisers, and I don't see anything in his original post which appears to be misleading. As sponsors 888 may have covered themselves legally to avoid liability, but it is in their interests to try and get this made right, as the whole idea of sponsorship is to be associated with prestigious events. They have much more clout to make a fuss about this than an individual participant, and they probably have legal grounds to pressure the organisers to honour their obligations, so it is entirely reasonable for him to highlight their involvement.

Good luck, OP. These battles are very hard to win, but I hope you get some justice. I think it is worth contacting 888Poker representatives on these boards as well as locally, not complaining to them but asking if they can help bring pressure on the organisers. It sounds as if someone has made an unfair profit at your expense.

OP has a right to feel cheated, and 888 has some responsibility here, as well, and maybe that includes total responsibility, as OP rightly assumed they were involved. You cannot get the benefits of a sponsorship and then claim no liability, especially in poker, where being legit is a huge reason someone would enter a tourney. I agree that the defense of 888 here is strange, and it suggests some ulterior motive. Not a good look at all.

In good faith or bad faith? Did they know that would happen? Did they know the organizers of the tournament would fail to pay? The sponsor is not responsible for anything in this case other than possibly a quick apology and a point in the right direction for resolution.

OP, you should consider posting a poll in NVG to see what people here think. Plus, it would get viewed by more people and might rattle enough cages to help with possible resolution.

The 888 involvement seems a bit sketchy. They were definitely presented as more than just advertisers. They should be trying to help.

But I guess I don't understand what actually happened. There was an overlay. Ok, those occur all the time. But what happened to the prizepool? is OP saying they missed the guarantee by like 70%?

I think it's obvious he is blaming 888 because they are the only company big enough to even feel guilty and just pay him out.

I think you are in no position to make any demands. Start working out a payment plan to receive your pay out over time from the rake from future events.

It sucks, but being emotional about something like this might make them just ignore you as they don't even have the money. Payment plan going to be likely only way to get paid out and likely a payment plan over 2 or 3 years

I agree with the logic that as official sponsors and the most recognizable name they will care. 888 can and should utilize their influence upon the tournament officials to get your money. 888 won't want this story getting attention. Use that to your advantage.

Make it very clear you will not rest until as many people as possible know not to got to their Brazilian national tournaments again because they don't pay.

Without players they have no rake; they have no business.

OP won't be getting their winnings because the only person responsible for paying out these winnings doesn't have any money. If he takes legal action, the owner will just declare bankruptcy. I'd just take this on the chin and move on; after contacting 888 to see if they would do anything whatsoever. Clearly, the owner of the tournament is incapable of managing money.

CNE owner had to sell there car and gave you 28K? Wow did you get an attorney? Your only option is legal action. Very unlikely you'll get the rest of the money.

What was the actual prizepool? You never say.

It was a R$ 1.000.000,00 GTD tournment, and i Won R$200.000,00, but online got R$ 38.000,00 of it.
