I've also had a pretty strange run in with HPT. One similar to Massey's I believe:

After winning one of their main event in Feb of 2012, I was made to believe I was getting the champions package estimated at about $3600 I think(memories aren't perfect for all this but i generally tend to have decent recall). I was 20 at the time but the event was scheduled to be played at Soaring Eagle in Michigan where you can play at 18+. I remember this distinctly because I was planning on visiting a good friend who lived in Mount Pleasant on that trip. A few months later the event is moved. Somewhere south. Louisiana or Mississippi or something maybe? You needed to be 21 to play wherever it was moved to. I tried to contact them for a while to get the $3600 i assumed I was owed. Eventually, they told me since I was not 21 that 2nd place would get my package. I'm almost positive that 2nd place did not get my package. I play with that guy fairly often.

A few months later and HPT is back in town and they contact me to say that they're sorry I can't attend the champion's event, and that they'd hook me up with one free buy in. I thought it was weird but I just showed up and played my first bullet on their dime. I never checked the prize pool but I was cutoff before going to a cage and I was walked to my table and given chips. The tournament receipt they gave me was different than the standard one I got on my 2nd bullet.

I never gave any of this a thought until randomly stumbling upon this post.

Jen was the name of the lady who gave me the free buy in I believe. Also the person who told me 2nd place would be getting the package.

I realize this is not all too helpful in yall's quest for justice on this current prize pool issue, but I still think it could be found interesting and somewhat on topic.

Seems like this is exactly what I am trying to bring up to gaming. The money just seems to be coming or going places that cant be pinpointed.

I just wrapped up a conversation with the MGC Rep. He informed we that HPT had revised the site so it no longer had any misleading information.
When I checked this out myself I was amused to find a complete lack of information, rather then revised it was removed.

IMO this shows that they know they have been in the wrong. They claimed the posted structure was simply an example of what they have as a structure.
When really its simply stated the maximum with holdings.
Now that they do not have that posted they can not be at fault for false advertising.

I was informed that to further this I would need to talk to each specific state in questions gaming commission. So I will start with Indiana and see where this goes.

Did you save screen shot of material before it was changed?

I believe I have the entire thing saved a few places. A portion of it possibly even the entire thing is in the OP.

The Representative from MGC did make it clear that the submitted structure sheets did comply with the rake taken.

So when in our meeting when Ken Lambert JR. stated, "Are we doing something wrong, OR is it your opinion that we are doing something wrong?"

Apparently he was correct it is my opinion. I hope it is others as well! I will do my best to let it be known that they are fleecing their consumers.

Nice work Ben. I've considered playing HPT's events. Don't see that in my future now that they're exposed. Much appreciated.

Is their rake higher due to being an ameristar property?

This may be the most confused a 2p2 thread has ever made me.

Am I misunderstanding or are they saying there is no problem with understating fees because its legal to do so?

That is exactly what the Director of Operations Ken Lambert had to say to me.

So it seems fair to assume this practice will continue for next weekends main event and I should plan on not playing?

This is almost exactly what was told to me.

I was told that they do not need to be transparent with fees and that they will take as much as they are legally allowed to in each state.

The only result of this thread was the removal of the standardized fee from the structure sheet.
