Bump.

I'm trying to hit The Grand with couple of buddies of mine during the end of June. Was going to stay at the nugget and take advantage of the discounted rooms. My question is has anyone stayed there before and is it a good value ir are there other plaes worth checking out. Planning on final tabling a couple of events and then spinning up the winnings in a WSOP, perhaps even luck box my way into a six figure score and Enjoy the rest of the summer!!!

Alsoay try to hit EDC the 21-23. It's gunna be insane!!!!

Similiar to my plans. I think the discount applies only to the basic rooms in the Carson Tower. Given that fact, this is still a good deal. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Not being gouged for a $25 breakfeast also adds to the value. I plan on spending 8 of my 13 nights at the GN. Hope to see you at a FT.

Have never stayed at the Nugget, but with the discounted poker rate, I'm sure it's a good value. I'm cheap and not super-picky, but AFAIK a lot of the places downtown are rather iffy. I stayed at Golden Gate a couple years ago, for like $22/night, and it was barely passable: room was VERY small and bathroom probably hadn't been remodeled since WWII. The only other place I'd recommend downtown is Main Street, which is clean and good value IMO. Anywhere else you're sorta taking your chances.

I stayed at the Nugget a couple of days last year in the Rush Tower before moving to the Rio. I wasn't able to get the Rush Tower at the poker rate tho so only wound up playing Binions (didn't feel committed to GPS and the turnouts looked pretty low (early June)) when I was Downtown. The Rush Tower was really nice tho. Clean, quite new etc.

The Nugget's rooms are great for the price...good sized, nice furnishings, marble counter in bathroom, etc. The pool is one of the best in Vegas.

I stayed in the Rush Tower for a couple weeks last year and the rooms are very nice there. Some friends stayed in Carson/Gold and they were perfectly happy with their rooms too.

You can sometimes swing an upgrade if you have a Landrys membership card and present it at checkin. These cost $25, but it's essentially a freeroll because you get a complimentary $25 on the card iirc.

Should I expect the limit events to go past 2am (noon starts) like people have the said the nlhe events do? I'm looking at playing 3-5 of these as warm-ups to wsop but will probably pass on days if i have a noon start the next day.

Easily the best small-stakes mtt schedule in town. Plenty of variety with different games/mixes. For sure playing 8-game and 2-7/nlhe mix.

This. I have stayed at the Nugget many times and the Main Street once. The rooms at the Nugget are probably the best value in Vegas. Downtown is always hopping and you can eat and drink fairly cheaply. My biggest complaint is the lack of cash games selection.

But maybe you should quit your job and go play these for a living to test that theory. Be sure to come back with the results.

Played a $230 HORSE last year with ~200 runners that hit the final table right before 02:00 - bubble was probably around midnight if I remember correctly.

Thanks! Do you remember if stacks were pretty shallow or was there still a lot of play?

It was noticeably faster than the WSOP $1500 HORSE, but it's a 1-day $230 vs a 3-day bracelet event. I ended up short after the bubble, but it seemed like most of the table had a reasonable stack and were able to play at least to the river (or multiple bets on 6th).

Based on this year's structure and assuming the bubble is at 3 tables around level 15 you're at a 100k average stack playing 6k-12k, and by the final table you're around 300k average playing 10k-20k or 12k-24k.

If memory serves I think they added a couple of levels that weren't there last year - like 600-1200 and 1200-2400. They still jump from 4k-8k to 6k-12k and skip 5k-10k which could be near the bubble.

Do they have any awards for player of the series, or anything like that?

The winner of the Grand Finale gets a very nice bracelet and his or her name on a floor to ceiling banner as a past winner. Some kind of points leader prize would be a great add for this series.
Just over three weeks till it kicks off!

Anyone know how long the dinner breaks are?

The structure sheets I'm seeing only indicate that there's a dinner break after level 9, but no mention of how long.

Grand Finale sheet indicates a 60 minute dinner break after round six. I assume the others are the same but after round nine. The web site has an email address for queries.

Yeah, I do believe it is a full 60 minutes, starting when everyone clears the room.

Thanks - hopefully it is a full hour. If so I should be good for my dinner reservations at Binions.

Watch out for added staff fees here. These aren't always listed in their ads and I've seen some players wind up short of the full buyin.

Here's the ad. I think you add $10 to whatever price is listed. The ad also is unclear as to what portion of the buyin goes to prizepool .
