Also calling a tourny "deep stack" with 30 minute levels is quite deceptive. The non deepstack tournies have better structures (talking about the 340 NL).

I do like the variety. I'm looking forward to the 1k HORSE which has an awesome structure.
Good point. Looking at the structure sheet, there aren't even enough levels listed to make it to 2AM on Day 1, so I'm guessing it'll be down to the final table by like 10PM. This structure reminds me of the tournament they run at the Horseshoe every Saturday, except they used 20 min levels and if you don't pick up any hands you're gone in like 2 hours. Here recently they raised the buy-in and bumped up the starting stack to 12K instead of 10K.

I was planning on playing one of the deep stack events until I actually looked into the structure. I'm definitely playing in the shootout on the 30th. That structure looks to be one of the best of all the events. I'll probably end up showing up the day before to play in the $110 tournament at the Horseshoe with a 20K starting stack just to get a few buy-ins to play in more events. The HOSE event on the 31st looks like a good tournament as well.

Enjoy playing online. No fail here. We were poker tournaments before everyone knew about them. We will have good fields, as we treat players well every time they come to Tunica. Would we rather have a completely open spot to have the event, sure. With the number of online and live tournaments around, that wont happen.

The Horseshoe is right next to the Gold Strike? How long a walk? If it is that close, I might see if I can get some nights comped there since GS won't comp all my nights.

Gold Strike to Horseshoe - Maybe 100 feet.

Spoke with Beth Sunday when making my reservations she expects attendance to be up this year over 2008. Average size for the first week last year on the Weekend was 300 during the week 200.

Only problem with these low buy in events $300 - $500 is that a relatively large percentage of the prize pool is used to fund the Entry into the Main
event ($5,150).

Been going to Tunica since the initial WPO event in 2000 - Tunica has a lot of draw backs and while it is a different word in poker since those days (take a look at PHIL IVEY's tourney history as he began his Tourney winning that year at Tunica) But the one thing that is absolutely consistent over the years is that the people you deal with TRY hard to please and treat you just as well as you treat them.

Greetings,

I'm a newbie to the 2+2 forums but hope to meet some poker minded people as well. I'm on VT, PokerRoad, FullContact, RGP and a few others. I'm going to the WPO from 7/24/09 to 7/31/09. May extend depending on my luck.

#1 Tunica has a good amount of poker rooms. The Grand and Horseshoe have awesome rooms so even if the cash games at Gold Strike are mobbed, there will be places to play.

#2 CAR RENTAL IS A MUST!! There are NO CABS in Tunica but 2 shuttles that don't run 24 hours (last time I went 9 months ago). The casinos are TOO FAR APART to walk to with the exception of Sherton/HorseShoe/Goldstrike. I'll have my car and I don't mind giving a lift or two but its not a bus.

#3 Memphis can be fun and also dangerous city. Be careful. Use a GPS. The only strip club worth going to is "The Pony" Now you don't have to wonder. hehe

#4 Have fun!

Geoff!

This is definitely a big detractor to the series especially for those of us who cannot make the main event.

Yeah I don't get the ME buy-in with winning a NLHE event either. $5150 is a lot of money. I think it should be up to the winner to decide what they want to do with it. I understand that this ensures that more people will play in the ME, but what if said winner can't play in it because of work/travel/etc.? I'm guessing there's no way this can be changed before the tournaments start, but if it can I would hope there is enough outspoken players there the first event or two to hopefully get this changed.

I might be getting there the 24th for the weekend action. Not 100% sure. If so I'll be playing Event #2 for sure, and if I cash/satellie into it I'll play the deep stack omaha event on Monday.

If you're going to be getting there Thursday, please post the turnout for Event #1 if you have internet access so the rest of us have an idea of what kind of fields there will be! Thanks!

most likely coming for the 340's on 8/2 and 8/3 although the $5150 off the top is of concern. Same type deal that killed the start of Ceasars Mega Stack this summer. Agree it should be players option. May just play the Mega Stack at Hard Rock instead.

Interesting tournament I just got an e-mail about from Horseshoe for those that plan to be there 7/30. I'll definitely be playing in this if it's not sold out by the time I get there.

click here to check out this awesome structure!

The PLO games will be GREAT. I played in a 2-5-10 half nl half plo two nights ago and the games was unreal. A player won 10k in it and it had around 40k on the table. And i know that taking out for main event hurts prize pool but you guys all know doing this ensures more players for the main. We have done this for awhile now. We want everyone to come out and will treat you better than any other place. Feel free to introduce yourself and say hello...

Hello Shaun, I am looking forward to coming out for your series which offers a slate of great tournaments. The variety, buy in amounts, and ability to play up to 3 tournies per day is pretty attractive for me. Just to argue the point about the 5150 taken out of the prizepool.

I count 13 events to which the 5150 is taken out of the pool, so a maximum of 13 extra seats to the main. This is not a significant number and gets smaller when you consider people who win a seat who
1) can't play the main due to travel/work etc. (me )
2) will play the main anyway.
3) would not of played the main but would play with the extra $$$ they got for winning a tourny.
4) have won prior seats

I believe one of the big vegas series took back this policy (Caesars megastack?) and as a result had a better turnout. I also think this thread shows that players would obviously prefer to have a choice to play or not. $5150 is a LOT for a $300 or $500 tourny. I wouldn't mind as much if the main was ~2k. I do expect this series to have a great turnout if the interest in this thread is any indication.

Thx for the heads up on the cash games. What other limits do they spread? Biggest game/frequency ran?

GL Steamin. Let us know how you do at the Cherokee Poker Room

Im going out on the 1st to play in event 19 & 20 and with a bit of luck (IE need to win my seat) will go back for the ME. I am very excited about this as I just got back from Event #1 of the Denny Crum and turnout was almost Triple what was expected. There is a feeling of optimism in the air and more poker players seem to be turning out to play.
