Hey all,
Not sure if this is the right forum for this. Mods feel free to move. Anyway,
I am playing in my first WSOP this year, fulfilling one of this middle-aged amateur's dreams ($1,500 - omaha 8). I haven't been to the Rio since the WSOP moved there so I am not sure of the layout.

In looking at the structure sheet there is no dinner break on day 1. Just curious, if there is food (relatively) near the tables so that I could grab something quick during a break. Alternatively, I could just bring protein bars, etc with me.

Second, at the Rio in general are there places to eat that you'd recommend (or avoid) for non tournament days?

Thanks.
AnyAce

The poker kitchen is nearby. There is a tacos to window down the long hallway with was pretty good. Not sure if you can order and eat in 20 minutes though

I'd definitely bring a backpack with snacks, maybe a sandwich or something.

In addition to what previous poster said, there is a snack bar/convenience station in the rotunda area with candy, chips, jerky, etc. Way overpriced, of course.

The $1500 bracelet events should have a dinner break, so even if you're not seeing it on the structure sheet, there will probably be one. The poker kitchen food during the WSOP is pretty decent and certainly the quickest option. The grill at the sports book is good, but the line gets long in a hurry so try to be there quickly and save the bathroom break until after you order. Guy Fieri's mex place is not bad but way too slow for a dinner break. Rest of the food at the Rio is not worth eating -- better to venture out to the Strip for a good meal on an off day.

looking at the structure sheets, it seems that the events starting at 3pm dont have a dinner break in general (the high roller being an exception). so that seems intentional, but they might change that if the players complain too much (or they just ignore that which seems more likely). so yeah, starting 3pm and playing 11 hours total with just 15 minute breaks it is

Not true. Smashburger is fairly good, outrageously overpriced of course. Voodoo Steak is good, but it's a real steak place where you should be ready to fork over 70 bucks or more.

No 3pms (other than maybe HR) have dinner breaks day 1

You're right, nick -- I was thinking of the more traditional 10:00 start times. My bad.

Thanks again. Smashburger a solid option.

I was hoping for a morning start. Coming from the East Coast the day before I think the 3pm start and 10 levels could go hard on an older fart like me...

As a fellow old fart ........ Smash burger is at the absolute other end of the Hotel upper level about as far away from the WSOP area as possible. Without a dinner break there is zero chance for you to walk there order and get back in before the end of the break let alone eat the sandwich. T Johnny above gave you the most practical solution - ask your kids to borrow their Back Pack Load it with munchies and a wrapped sandwich perhaps. You might be able to get a cold cut sandwich from the poker kitchen as an alternative it should be relatively close to your events room and unless you break at the same time as a big event the lines won't be so long that you can't get there and back in time. Regardless - enjoy the experience there is nothing like your first time WSOP event........ specially for "an old fart"

Having been lucky enough to make several day 2s in these 3 pm events my experience has been that once you get to 11 pm or so then food is not a concern.

Surprised no one has mentioned All American Daves. You can order anytime via text, give them your room, table number and seat and your food will be delivered right to you. Best option there in my opinion. Their entire menu and number is on their website during the WSOP.

Unless something has changed, you have to be on a meal plan with All American Dave to get table delivery. I really like his meals but they are pretty spendy for the size for those on a budget.

I wouldn't dream of going to play poker without mine and don't forget the smelly muscle liniment oil.... it makes us so very popular at the table.

Now I feel dumb ---- been to WSOP several times and have never seen the Smashburger ---- where is it? Thanks in advance.

It took the place of Burger King, up near the entrance from the parking garage on the Masquerade side.

As someone else mentioned, too far from the WSOP to walk during a 20 min break. But if you have any buddies or helpers, you could ask them to get it for you before the breaks.

It’s on the second level sort of right above the area that they use for the Rio Cirucuit events. I think they call that the masquerade area or something
