World Record Attempt

Delaware Park Iron Man Poker Challenge. August 20, 2011 with a buy in of $550. 100K guaranteed. 60 minute levels, starting stack of 50,000

DP has decided to go for a world record and they have contacted the "Guinness Book of World Records" and Guinness has set up a category for a world record longest continuous poker tournament. Therefore, the breaks are out. No breaks... zero. Of course, anyone can go out to their car and take a nap, and miss a few hands/orbits. Sleep on the bar, table...whatever. What I know is sketchy. But, the advertised tournament has changed to comform to world record qualifications.

The tournament may need to go 36 hours to make the book..... I'm not sure of that point. But, if there are as many as 350 players. With a capped registration, the payout will be $175,000 (or more with alternates) and there will be 17.5 million chips in play @ 50,000 each to start. Regardless, it's a 100K guarantee

The blind structure will change from the one posted on their web site and to slow the tournament down, three levels will be added. The original levels are available on pdf @ http://www.delawarepark.com/poker_promotions.php
Keep in mind that this structure has changed. Levels are added and breaks are out. I will post the new flyer as soon as it's available

Red Bull will be a sponsor though I'm not sure what that means yet.

Press will be contacted and the tournament may be film recorded for news in case stations wish to pick it up for their nightly broadcasts.

Registration will be limited to the first 350 players. They may accept alternates, but registration will be closed after level 2.

Here's a write up of the Ironman that ran at the Commerce in 2009. It lasted 19.5 hours, but players started with only 10,000 in chips @ 60 minute levels and No (big zero) breaks. Meals served at the tables. I can't find anything about another event like this. Any help will be appreciated.

http://www.pokernews.com/news/2009/09/iron-man-7293.htm

The Commerce was a $1600 buy in 2009. The event at Delaware Park has a $550 price tag. Was there ever a $550 event with this kind of Ironman structure played anywhere in the world at 60 min blinds and 50,000 to start? Epic seems a good description of what this will be. I wonder what the longest running MTT live tournament is.

I noticed that Commerce ran an Iron Man also in Feb 2011 (LA Poker Classic)with a $2100 buy in and 68 entries. I tried all the search engines, but can find this format only used at the Commerce.

Good news: No need to book a hotel for the night :-)

Bad news: High chance that one could end up with making $500 after 24 hrs of non stop play. Reminds me of the $215 WCOOP events in stars which start at 1630ET and go til mid day next day. 5 hr energy - where are you?

yea good point. i hope this doesnt pay out way too many people. i have a feeling its gonna be something ridiculous like 20% so people dont play for 20 hours and get nothing.

I'll see if I can get the payout structure later in the week. I just left DP and won't be back until Thursday or Friday. I'm assuming 18 to 25 paid with 30% at the top and 70% spread out. I noticed, because of the whole concept of Iron man that the Commerce paid 50% to the top. I suspect that 70 K will be up for grabs at the final table and will chop with tired players around level 28. But assuming 200 players @ 50,000 start stacks equal 10,000,000 in tournament chips. Level 26 is 50,000/100,000 with 10,000 antes. By that time, it's going to play hard for all but the chip leaders. Very possible that it goes closer to 24 hours.

Either way, it's a cool concept. I'm going to skip the first hour and a half, but register early. Also, because it is new and not for everyone, they risk an overlay @ 100K guaranteed. All the better if I'm in the game. Smokers's are at a real disadvantage and some may choose to pass simply because of that hardship.

Five. Four on Friday and one Saturday morning. I feel sorry for anyone who satellites in Saturday morning at 9 AM and plays deep.

I don't have bankroll for it. But will be there all day Friday trying the first two satellites, or I will have someone stake half. and I pay the other 275.00. Longest session I have ever play live was 12 hours and my back was killing me. Good Point. I will also start 1 or 2 hours later also. I don't know if I have the stamina for this. But will soon find out.

I'm interested in what others have to say about this.

I'm going to play the Ironman. I think that with a 50/100 level one and 100/200, level two and three (ante's of 25), that it might be a better strategy to stay up late Friday...sleep to noon or 1 and get over to the game at 1:30 or 2 or even 2:30. Since, playing this tournament deep is going to be tiresome and at level three I'll still have 250 BB, I believe that for us older types, this might be the best way to approach it. Sooner or later even for a poker degen like me the poker gas runs low.

I'd appreciate any input.

Point taken. I'm a casual player. Don't get me wrong, I've logged in many thousands of on line +ev tournaments (4000 Sharkescope-able @ a modest 17% ROI) and hundreds of live ones......damn FTP..... I want my money......sorry....but back to the point. I don't usually play $550 buy ins. In fact, I like to stay in the $350 range or even better, lower. I consider myself a cash player first and tournament player second. I don't think I'd play this any differently, except that I may tend to view the $500 plus player as better and therefore I'll play somewhat more agressive. That the player is better may not be true at all @ $550.

I have tried this. It doesn't work for me. My body/brain is so used to waking up at 630 that even if I go to bed at 4am instead of my usual time of 10:30 it wont let me sleep in. I start tossing and turning at about 730 am and by 830 my body is screaming wake up! Even though its still tired and sleepy. So I lose more sleep than I gain by staying up late. Now what I would do is wake up at my usual time 7am and take a 1-2 hour nap at 12pm. Then head tourney. I live 10 minutes away. It works better for me.
