Too many times (not just Durant), the good events (ie. non-NLH) get stuck in the middle of a week, which simply isn't conducive for many who would otherwise travel. They don't ALL need to be on the weekends, but they could mix them in on weekends and they would increase the draw on those events.
On very rare occasions, I can carve out a few days during a given week on short notice, but it is FAR easier to make plans around a weekend event (or a Friday event). Outside of something like the WSOP Seniors event (which I qualified for the day cards went in the air), I am not going to go out of my way to travel for a hold'em event. When I can find a HORSE or 8-game mix, however, I do my damndest to TRY and get there, but is often difficult because they choose a Tuesday or Wednesday morning, which kills the majority of the week for me and makes it impossible. Some of us HATE schedules where the only difference is whether the NLHE is full-ring vs 6-max or where the entry fee went up or down or where it is a turbo. Not worth driving or flying to those...its why I skipped New Orleans entirely this year.
