I played the Winstar tourney yesterday, was a pretty good structure, good starting stack, and had over 140 runners turn out. I guess Choctaw is really dead on Saturdays.

What time does the Winstar tourney start on Saturdays?

How many 2-5 tables does Choctaw usually have on the weekends? I really liked playing there during the WSOP and want to try and go back one weekend.

The Choctaw event was the best, but Winstar's is now even better:
1. 20k chips (Winstar) vs 15k chips (Choctaw) and knowing average chip count throughout the tournament--Choctaw seems to wait 2-2.5 hours before factoring in the extra 5k chips into the average
2. one or two extra levels near the beginning of the tournament
3. and the general karma in the room--much better at Winstar--more action at the cash tables and players not being penalized for accidentally exposing their hole cards

I like the Choctaw event too, but apparently it's going down without a fight

I wonder if Winstar will continue the Sat tourney even when they start running their River satellites?

I played last Sat. and it was nice. The 20K chips are great and there was lots of action. Only bad thing was losing two set over set plus I had the second best full house hands, ouch.

A buddy who plays this regularly just told me there's some changes coming to this, I assume as a response to winstar.

20k stacks now up from 15
10k guarantee now
Unlimited reentries for first 4 levels.

So July, are we back to the non-reentry, non-guarantee, 30 player tourney?

Not necessarily Scott. They've got to get changes approved by their gaming commission 30 days ahead of time. Hopefully they'll surpass the Guarantees and move the Guarantee up. Thats the theory anyway.

Absolutely right. The changes were a result of a conversation John Short and i had with Poker Room manager during last series there, about how to improve the tournaments. Thet were very receptive, and asked for contnued feedback.

Key changes were:
Guaranteed Prize Pool (possibly progressive) where if the guarantee is met so many weeks in a row it jumps to a new level.

Re-entry, so players that drive an hour or more to play, have the option to continue if they get felted early.

A Saturday evening tournament, which would encourage players to stick around and play cash if they busted the noon.

A Sunday Tournament to encourage players to spend the weekend.

They've already made some player friendly changes such as providing free snacks in the lounge area (cookies, pretzels, chips, granola bars, etc).

New comps for poker play that don't effect your casino comp bucket.

They are very open to suggestions, and realize it's a partnership between the players and the poker room.

Yesterdays noon Choctaw Deepstack surpassed the 10K Guarantee.

Total # of entrants was 76 creating a prize pool of $12,160. (76 X $160 = $12,160 $20 Juice on each entry)

It paid 8 places.

With $4K plus up top.

I busted 8th at about 9pm. Final Table average Stack when i busted was 25 BB's.

It was a good showing with a lot of people in Vegas. Hopefully it will gain some momentum, before the next series in July.

81 runners this past Saturday, so it seems to be slowly gaining some traction, including an early bust out or two from WS, making the trk over to Durant.
