Ive played it 4 times this past summer and just never really liked the game, not too many people getting it in bad or where they shouldn't. Maybe im just use to sickos making move s with nut blockers and stuff idk, my boy Chris Coles did crush it last week thou so maybe I should check it out again. Im going to go to choctaw this sat to defend my deep stack title but maybe next weekend.

Thanks bud! I ended up making it to 8th, cashed for $471.

Kinda weird day, I was trying some new "moves" and some of them worked OK, some didn't at all. I set up a nice image for myself so I got action in spots most wouldn't (including a girl shipped 76 on a Q96 flop into my JJ, of course she hit a 7.) I kinda tapped the tank a bit too much after that - I was kinda mad and was kinda setting up a tilted image (which paid off a few hands later.)

I never really had much of a stack, never once above 70k, but doubled when I needed to ...

Now my final hand...

Blinds just went up to 3/6k/500 and I'm BB - folded around to the button who just open ships 57k (he's got me covered). SB folds and I see A8s (probably the best hand in an hour, I only had 2 premiums all day, JJ lost to 76, and QQ won the blinds early on.)

I call, he's got AJ and I go home.

DSquared and Texmo say fold, since we need to use fold equity in these. Stein and BlackAces both say it's a snap call.

I'm not sure..

9 bigs with an A and iso against a button cram. No brainer call 100% of the time.

Its +cEV if he's shipping 18% of hands and he is so much wider than that especially if he's not ancient. Do we really think he's openfolding any pair or any ace with under ten bigs folded to him on btn? Top 18% doesn't even include all aces and pairs ffs.

Do you have any read on villain whatsoever? Has he been raising his button often? Shoving often? Or has he been patient, being blinded off, and this is his first shove? What were the other stack sizes at the table? What range did you put him on to shove? Void of any reads whatsoever, I'm more inclined to give him credit for having A8s, beat handily and would rather look for a better situation to open shove.

All but the nittiest nits aren't folding 33, A3o, KT, etc when it folds to them on the button and they have under ten bigs. And unless the table is super passive we may not get a chance to open shove in LP next orbit.

We are 51% vs a range of any pair, any ace, any two broadways and K9. We need like 43% to breakeven with cEV. And I think many many many players are shoving wider than that.

Clear clear clear call, absent some other huge info

Agreed. The player on the button wasnt the type to stick it in light in that spot. I still think folding to a player that would do it with J9s is correct. You cannot win this hand without a showdown where as if you waited and pushed a few hands later you would have nice fold equity to work with as well, two ways to win is better than one.

Good luck and see you at another final table soon

Agree that many many many players are shoving lighter than that. But taking Texmo's read that the specific player in question (the only one we're concerned with here) isn't the type to shove light, I would think alters the equation significantly. Perhaps not enough, but if villain is shoving only all pairs and broadways (18%), we drop to 46% PF.

I know the villain, have played with him a few times including the WSOPc circuit turbo.. He's certainly capable and can have a weaker ace here, a small pair, even something like KQ, JTs etc.

We've talked strat away from the table and know him to be a capable player. He had just shipped 77 into AK and chopped an A2345 board.

Can you explain how he would have fold equity when he only had 9 bigs to start this hand and is the SB next hand? Plus, he is highly unlikely to get a chance to open shove in the next couple of hands as he will be in the SB, the button then the cutoff.

8bb is alot of FE in my experience. Even if I knew the guy had J9 I would probably fold there. It was just folded to the button, the game flow suggested it would again and often enough until the chop was done. Accumulate chips here, dont risk with such a small edge where you could easily be dominated in this spot. No one wants last place money here. They want to chop

This is a Choctaw weekly, not a ring event.
